  1. Shakir Muhkmadullin was drafted with the 20th overall pick that was originally held by Vancouver then traded to New Jersey in a 3-way trade which saw the 20th overall pick Shakir Muhkmadullin go to New Jersey, Black Colman go to Tampa from New Jersey, and JT Miller from Tampa to Vancouver.

  2. I wouldn't call the return for San Jose a King's ransom. Basically they got a bottom six forward, a cap dump, Okhotiuk for hatakka which at best is a wash for San Jose and at worst a downgrade, Mukhamadullin (probably not even top 5 NJ prospect), a late first and probably a late second but maybe another late first. Also they had to give up a 5th for a 7th for some reason. A lot of mid does not equal 1 Star level asset. Sharks would be lucky to use those picks well enough to make this trade not look absolutely terrible in five years.

  3. "it's gonna make NJ one of the favorites to win the SC this season". I am not sure about this, still have my doubts considering the goaltending come playoff time…

  4. First big trade under Grier and we got robbed… I've never been so much disappointed by a trade. Make me laugh to think about people who were crying fire Doug Wilson for years, are you happy now ? 0 top tier prospect in return for a 30+ scorer, what a joke. And of course we will not get Bedard to save us because no luck, sad to be a Shark fan for the moment.

  5. Devils won this trade big. Both prospect defensemen would never see the ice with our defensemen already being solid and mostly signed for good prices as well. Also Nemec and Luke Hughes making the roster next season. So Fitzgerald was able to get Meier without losing Holtz or Mercer, whom San Jose supposedly coveted.

  6. Devils stole this trade. All those guys weren't going to crack our lineups except for Zetterlund whom I do like a lot. Mercer Luke Hughes and nemec untouched is a gigantic win for Devils!!

  7. Again this will put San Jose in the basement great job GM Grier going in the opposite direction of what was promised. Somehow this won't "pan out" for the Sharks it always has & always will.

  8. It really relies on how the Sharks draft with those picks no matter where they lie. Jersey wins cup no one cares about the trade for at least 5 years.

  9. I knew the Devils were a favorite, if not the favorite, to land Timo Meier but still I was equal parts hopeful and skeptical that we'd be able to get him.

This is the kind of move that historically a team like the Leafs or Rangers would make and the fact that the Devils were able to acquire him, especially for that return, is just mind-boggling.

I'm sorry to see Zetterlund go and I think Shak could someday be a pretty good d-man but the Devils had to make this trade, Meier checks off so many boxes. He not only gives the Devils a different dimension, this trade keeps him away from the Canes.

  10. Sad to see Zetterlund go, absolute tank of a body with a great shot. Hard worker, very likable player. Take care of him SJ. You should get an NHL career out of Muk as well, and maybe one of the picks works out in addition to get a 3rd NHLer out of the deal. I have my doubts about Nikita, and Johnsson was a salary dump — but time will tell. As an NJ fan, over the moon with Timo coming back and retaining our very top prospect forwards and dmen in Hughes, Nemec, Casey, Bahl, Holtz, Gritsyuk. LGD

  11. I know it sounds like a lot but I can’t help but feel underwhelmed by this trade. If you look at it the Devils really didn’t have to give anything substantial up. They give up a few of their “good” prospects and a late first rounder and most likely a second. When you consider how deep their prospect pool is this is a team that can definitely afford to trade those first rounders. I really can’t believe SJ wasn’t able to get even one of those top prospects out of NJ. It just feels like that was relatively painless for them to acquire such a elite player.

  12. Devils also received Timur Ibragimov, Santeri Hatakka, Zachary Emond and a fifth-round pick (originally Colorado's selection) in the 2024 NHL Draft

  13. crap trade return for a stud RFA. bunch of B grade and lower futures. rookie GM got fleeced by Fitz.

  14. not only did NJD not have to give up a top 4 prospect, they got to keep Gritsyuk and Casey, as well as both future netminders (Daws and Shmid).

  15. That might turn out to favor San Jose more. Hard to imagine Meier topping what he's done this year (so far).

  16. No trade is official until the hockey guy declares it. Love your work and keep turning out great work.

  17. I won't be celebrating too hard until Timo re-signs. If he does though, holy shit… what a trade!!!

  18. The arms race in the East from the last few weeks keeps getting better and better. Devils get Meier, Leafs just made a big trade to get McCabe to shore up their defense just a week after making an even bigger trade to get O'Reilly, the Bruins made their trade to get depth from Washington, the Isles got Horvat, Rangers get Tarasenko and are desperately trying to get Kane…and there's still 4 more days until the deadline. The East is definitely an absolute beast of a conference this year.

  19. I dont understand sharks had no need to trade actual 40goal scorer to anywhere media just decided hes gonna get traded and so happened ? But for punch of never heard ohl level goons and aome horrible pics fpr him 😂 why did they do this trade ? There was no need to gift meier to mewjersey

  20. Devils fan here

Getting Meier is awesome. Power forward and scoring winger is exactly what they needed. Fitzgerald did an amazing job keeping the core prospect pool in tact (L. Hughes, Holtz, Nemec, Sharangovich). The Sharks are getting a good young forward in Zetterlund who has shown flashes in his short time with the Devils. He is not afraid to shoot or lay the body. He did amount to top line minutes with Hischier and Tatar and did very well. Ohkotiuk didn't get nearly as many opportunities, but I liked what I saw from him as well. Muhkamadullin apparently is tearing it up in the KHL too. I think the Sharks ended up with some good pieces, but high praise to Fitzgerald for not giving up anything "significant."

  21. The Sharks do not get the better deal here. I am happy that Zetts, Johnston, and Okhotiuk will get major playing time. As far as Mukhamadullin…KHL…an unknown…so far he is still in the KHL…

  22. San Jose lost this trade by a supremely wide margin. I am completely dismayed by the collection of 2nd rate draft picks and prospects we received in return for Meier. Just pathetic Grier couldn't get a deal done that included a Grade A Forward prospect coming back our way like Mercer or Holtz. Including one of these guys would have made the trade FAIR but instead we got all the reject prospects that weren't ever in NJ's longer term build plans and some super low 1st round draft picks instead. Mukhamadullin and Zetterlund will be middling roster players at best after we give up an absolutely elite right winger who's just breaking into stardom. Just total trash all around on this deal. Congrats Jersey.
