  1. If they get the 5th to 7th pick and he's still available then I would. I'm sure Gorton and Hughes would do their homework before they draft him to see if the logistics of him coming to the NHL would make sense and also if there would be a chance of him coming sooner to later.

  2. I say if any of these top NCAA players still available at 5 or 6, Fantilli or Carlsson, Smith, Benson, we pick one of them. If they are all gone, yes, we take the best available, which is Michkov. Imagine last year, if we pick different NCAA teammates in our 1st round, Logan Cooley and Knies, instead of our european teammates, we are just in way better situation now. Slaf and Mesar are not NHL ready, still couple years away. Cooley and Knies are 100% NHL ready now for sure and I say with higher ceiling than our european teammates.

  3. It wont happens. I really see Michkov sliding out of the top 10. Situation iN Russia keeps getting worse. His dad got murder. Crazy shit going on over there.

  4. Habs need to draft Michkov no matter what if they aren't drafting 1 or 2. You can't pass on a talent like this, even with all the uncertainty it is worth the risk

  5. I just don't like that he doesn't get to grow with the Habs, get to know the boys and build chemistry.

  6. You make an excellent case to take MM a 6 or 7. I think HuGo would pull the trigger on him if—and this is a big if—they get what they want for their other 1st round pick which is apparently a really good prospect or a young NHL player with upside.

  7. I don't know. I like the kid but I really don't trust Russia. If he is not present physically at the draft, I wouldn't chance it. There are still amazing players.

  8. I definitely would draft him, even with all the caveats, he's definitely a potential generational talent.

  9. still worried about the 3 years left on KHL contract and mystery surrounding his fathers death…will he ever leave Russia or was there something about his dad's death controlled by Putin.

  10. Insider info said before last year's draft, Habs were picking Slaf over Cooley and Wright.
Insider info says the Habs will not pick Michkov if he's available when they get their pick. They gave reasons, including there's no transfer agreement between the NHL and the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, he's under a multi-year contract in the KHL, his attitude and play on the ice, a history of Russian players threatening to go back to Russia to play if they don't get what they want….Michkov is expected to sink in the draft.
Personally, unless they luck out and get 1st pick for Bedard, I'd prefer a player with some size who has a hockey IQ that not only generates goals but can play effectively in the D-zone, read plays and aggression that forces opponents to rush their decisions/plays making sloppy plays and mistakes. Not stand there like a pylon.

  11. wow. Ovechkin made quite the jump in production when he hit the NHL. Almost makes the KHL look more difficult than the NHL. I never noticed that. Good info thanks.

  12. Michcov is just not that good.
Habs do Not need any more 5-10 punks 😮

  13. I’d be shocked if teams picking anywhere between 3-5 don’t pluck him! The guy is imo #2 behind Bedard if he were anywhere else but in Russia. If it’s one thing our Hand need , it’s some goal scoring depth on the wings and he might just be the purest natural goal scorer available in the entire draft! He’d be a game changer for us and someone with Star potential!! When’s the last time a Superstar set foot on the ice for the Habs? I’d like to see us take him if he’s there when we pick!

  14. Reinbacher no thanks unless we are trading away a few of our NHL ready defense prospects to make room for him. We need forwards and a number one goalie

  15. Yes 100% if we don’t win a lottery, I would not draft will smith, very lazy player, offensive only

I want bedard or fantilli but if michkov is on the board and both bedard and fantilli is taken you need to, we have so many defensive prospecs, we need top 6 potential, and bottom 6 we can do with almost anyone

As for goaltending we can do it with a draft

  16. With the talent they have in the top 10, I wouldn't risk it. Even with the 7th pick. Apparently they are making a law in Russia that prevents players from going to the NHL… so why would you draft a player that has 70-80% chance to never play in the NHL?

  17. They absolutely should draft him, I'd love to have him be a Hab, even if it means waiting until 2026. He's seen as generational. This is the type of pick that teams would regret missing out on in a few years.
