Its one game. Doesnt matter if they lose 7-2 or 1-0 a loss is a loss. Yes, this sets up game 2 as a must win game. I really highly doubt we see anywhere close to the same team on Thursday. Should they come through and get game 2 all you need is 1 in Tampa and you have the series in a really winnable state WITH home ice in the final 3 games. The leafs are far from done. Believe me. And if they come out in game 2 similar to how they did today…well…they deserve whats coming to them in that case.

Refs did great. They called the game. Name one call that wasn't actually a penalty. Yeah maybe some were a soft penalties but penalties nonetheless.

I won tickets, and this was my first Leafs playoff game. What a waste! The atmosphere at the beginning was the only saving grace.

It’s the first game….
SOME COMMENTS: 1) I am a Leafs fan.
2) There are times when a team plays better and should win but loses and times when a team plays bad but still manages to gyp the opposition and win anyhow. In this case Tampa was the better team hands down. I admit that. However……. .
3) Michael Bunting was handed a 5 minute major. Bunting has been screwed over by NHL refs. He is being discriminated against. Imagine if he was black. What would the narrative be then? Would the R card be played? All teams have goal scorers, defenders and agitators. Bunting is the latter. That is his role on this team. He (by extension the Tor Maple Leafs) is getting shafted by the league. Before him it was Kadri. Remember that? Before him it was Darcy Tucker, which takes us back to the days of when the Leafs won their last series. I am getting from this that the Leafs and only the Leafs are NOT ALLOWED to have a person in this role, something all other teams have. It IS as if the NHL has it in for this franchise. HUNDREDS of players have worn that jersey since 1990 and yet the song remains the same. The only constant is the brand itself.
4) WES MACULEY! Anytime Macauley refs a Leafs game, the Leafs lose and are usually penalized a lot more than the opposition. As soon as I saw him before puck drop I felt Toronto would lose no matter how well they played. Toronto had 8 penalties to Tampa's three. MacAuley should not be permitted to ref Leafs games. Referee Wes MacAuley is known for his legendary calls on the ice, but he's also not on the best terms with Sheldon Keefe. Long story short, a couple of years ago, Keefe testified in a court hearing against McCauley's brother-in-law, who are very close.
Remember when Keefe was fined because he screamed at a ref? That ref was also Wes McCauley.
On top of all that, the Tampa bay Lightning have NEVER lost a game with McCauley on the ice.

I feel like McCabe is a solid 3rd pair guy. No idea why he's being counted on to revive the physicality and the D-core in general. Saw Buffalo vs Tampa in Buffalo a few years ago and Sergachev broke McCabe's ankles, sent him for a pack of smokes, and dummied him in a fight in the same game. Dude is Bogosian level at his base. I'm very confused when anyone says the leafs have improved their D. Gio is ancient, Holl is still Holl, Reilly had his revival year already, and Brodie gets a big "Yeah, thats good enough."
