Like always expect them to get screwed w the lottery and drop down
Couple more years till this team is a true contender you can already see them blooming fleeced my nucks to offload hronek the yzerplan is full effect
I've been watching this rebuild for the last two years and I fully buy into the Yzerplan. However, the main concern I have is defensive coordination. Seider is great and we have strong offensive defenseman, but we collapse and turnover in our own zone too much. I think we should adopt the defensive style of Carolina next season with the speed our younger players have. Once I see sound defense in front of Husso night in and night out. Then we are going to be a monster. LGRW!
Playoffs next year
Believe in the Yzerplan.
Yes we lost Vrana and Bertuzzi, but look how many draft picks we picked up for it PLUS, we did not exactly LOSE any steam in the standings afterwards either.
The mere fact that 3 of their top 5 players in points were the people Yzerman brought in, Perron, Copp and Kubalik, shows they were INSTRUMENTAL in Detroits success now and in the future. Consider these three the new Draper, Holmstrom and Maltby players. CORE players.
I swear Yzerman is working something to happen at the Draft and we will be shocked to see what that is.
There's plenty of space on the team, good cap coverage with room to spare AND potentials for the next 3 draft years.
This actually is a better than normal situation to BE in.
I still expect Raymond to drop again next year if he is not either forced to improve in the offseason or is not given complimentary players to assist him.
If he is the 'guy' ,he needs to do better really.
Husso is the man right now, Helberg is a great back up but theres SO much space between Husso and Hellbergs skills and there's no sense on thinking about it until after the draft because there will be lots of shuffling around going on and no one right now wants to expose their hand, so to speak.
Ned i just do not see being ANY better than he is right now. Think its time to let him go.
The plan is working spectacularly.
Those 3 2nd round picks are in a row and in the top 15 of said round. I’m very excited to see what happens with those
I think Yzerman should Resign Suter, Chiasson and Oesterle (I would sign Erne just because he's willing to throw hands). Then Extend Seider and Berggren in the off season then find a suitable backup for Husso.
Yes picks and Cap space for not a bottom team put you in a good position. Need to shore up Goaltending. Being a Lightning fan do a have faith in Yzerman but Atlantic has several up and coming teams along with old guard at the top so will be tuff.
Kubalik has a lot of upside. If he just tweaks a few things, gets into scoring positions more often, he can score 30+ goals a season.
I think Rasmussen is the key to their future, he's one of those guys that you need to build a contender. They were 27-21-8 when he was in the lineup, and 8-16-2 when he wasn't
Andrew Copp coming off core surgery and missed all camp, had a slow start to the season but 100% agree near the end of the season you saw flashes of him. Also him paired with Rasmussen really started clicking until Ras got hurt. I expect a big trade this upcoming offseason to get a top line forward if not an additional 2nd line forward as well. Very excited for the future, not the flashiest team but will win
Hope they let Osterle and Hagg go. Theyre just blocking the way for Edvinsson, Johansson, Viro and that really solid canadian kid
I’m not worried about the Wings’s future, they’ll be fine. They have plenty of picks and money to use with a chance to get the 1st or 2nd overall pick (not counting on them getting either though it would be very nice) and did decently considering Fabbri was hurt to start and end his season, Bertuzzi and Vrana both missed time and were then dealt and Husso was good in net until he got overused. They have one of the best prospect cores as well. People just have to be patient, no rebuild is ever complete in the time the fanbase wants. The Wings biggest need is elite scoring and there’s more than one way to get it
100 percent trust the Yzerplan
Any of these middling Teams manage to get Bedard… watch out
Why am I wearing shades indoors?
Because the Red Wings' future is bright.
Being an out of state Wings fan, it's hard enough to watch the games when they weren't terrible. But seeing the way things were going as Zetterberg entered his final years, I just stopped watching for a while. This was my first season getting back into it, and I'm really glad I'm getting familiar with this core before the team becomes good again.
The potential just in their prospect pool is nuts. I hope Kasper and Mazur have really good summers and can earn a spot in the lineup. We've got guys like Amadeus Lombardi going nuts. Edvinsson, Johansson, and Wallinder could all be great defensemen. And there are a bunch of guys I'm not thinking of right this second that could play a role. I know most prospects don't work out in the end, but we only need a few and we have so many options. Now imagine if the Wings can entice someone like Debrincat to come over, or we get lucky in the draft lottery. If things go right, the roster next season could look insanely different compared to what they had most of this year. Honestly, I don't know where some of our forwards will fit in if a few young guys earn a spot. We need them to develop quickly, but that means dropping some vets who are also useful.
I do think Ben Chiarot gets undue criticism. I went into the season expecting just an unskilled, defensive defenseman who would be the tough guy to protect Seider. Turns out he can skate really well, makes a good breakout pass, has solid offensive instincts, blocks a lot of shots, and can knock guys down more easily than most players I've seen. I'm not a big fan of advanced stats and we all know stats like plus/minus are flawed. I do think his numbers can be better, and he's not perfect, but no one is. I just think he was a victim of being a 20+ minute a night guy on a bad team. The Wings were better this year and had a chance to make the playoffs, but there were still bad overall. Lots of room for improvement. Aside from the young guys coming in and making an impact, if Lalonde can tighten up the details in their game and we give the goalies more help (Husso and Ned are good enough options), I think playoffs are the expectation next year.
As a Wings fan, I'm happy with the direction of the franchise. We were spoiled during the 25 consecutive playoffs while winning 4 cups in 11 seasons along the way. I've been patient with Yzerman, I trust the Yzerplan.
Anyone know how Bedards Defense is? McDavid could play Defense but generally spends less energy on that end of the rink…this is why I love Marner he is committed anywhere on the ice….dont mean to dis McDavid.
Just a few words for Yzerman: don't panic, you know, like you did last summer. Just because you have room under the cap doesn't mean you have to use it.
Impressed by: Berggren, Perron, Rasmussen, Maatta and Walman.
Unimpressed: Fabbri, Zadina, Chiarot and all three goalies.
Our core is great so no need to mention on my end.
I saw a video from a Detroit YT channel on trade deadline day…I have hunch that the Wings will make a play for Matthews.
Wings fan here. Thanks for the breakdown Shannon! Love it. Lots to look forward to
Wings are loaded with prospects and draft capital. They are close.
Problem with the Wings, and Buffalo, and Ottawa, is the division. Tampa, Boston, and Toronto, one or two would have to fall off because the three of them will probably finish in the top 3. So that leaves only a wild card for the non playoff teams. And you have to factor in the Metropolitan when playing for a wild card. So even if they’re better, like Buffalo this year, they could still fall short of a playoff spot.
Soderblom stands on top of the LCA and swats bi-planes out of the sky!
The three 2nd round picks in 2023 could also be a helpful trade tool. I think they are going to be consecutive picks Trading Chariot might actually be possible. Blame it on the team. He's much better than he played this last season. No comment on the draft lottery.
I kinda felt like the Red Wings gave up on me. I remember saying "wow the Wings are only a point out from Pittsburgh" and then they traded Bertuzzi. Like I get acquiring picks and getting something for a player but I would have like to see them at least try to keep in the race and they just kept losing after that, just feel gave up on but that's just my 2 cents ✌
This team has been in such a drought of being able to score its sickening. I will not be surprised if they go right back down to the bottom.
The future is bright. Trust in Yzerplan.
Been waiting for this video, thanks Shannon!
Trust Stevie Y.
Some teams turn it around fast, not the Red Wings. Snail pace "rebuild" if you can even call it that. Their winning % been relatively the same for like 5 seasons in a row, wheres the improvement?
I think people are jumping to conclusions that red wings are conclusions making the playoffs instead of being patient that rebuilds take time. I think that the wings should focus on the 9th, 10 or 11th instead of worrying about winning the lottery. I personally believe red wings aren’t likely to win the lottery.
Would had been nice to have that goalie of the future Wallstedt right about now…..
Their offense is almost non existent and I don't see an obvious way out of that without winning the lottery this year, or maybe Lombardi or Mazur can turn their development up a notch. Lalonde did not impress me and I thought he was out coached more than a few times this season. Too many weird pairings and match ups. Seider/Chiarot was terrible from the start and he let that go for way too long. Having Solderblom start the season over Bergy way a bizarre choice that he again let persist for too long as well. Kubalik on the 4th line? Rewarding veteran guys who can't score with ice time just because they're putting in a lot of effort. You do that shit for a game or two to send a message, not half the damn season.
Great piece. A .500 team before the sell-off so great improvement imo, and yes the sell off was likely the best move. Would rather see them keep Suter as a depth guy over Erne but SY seems to like Erne dating back to Tampa.
Detroit doesn't have any elite scoring. Larkin is ok but would be a 2nd liner on a lot of teams.
Chiarot's garbage
Why even bring up the idea of drafting Fantilli? He's not going to be around at 9. It's a fantasy to think the Wings might move up 7 spots in the draft lottery. Detroit is in bad need of a player besides Larkin who can carry the puck into the offensive zone but it won't be Fantilli.
Honestly, I know its been a few years since we've made it to the playoffs, but as long as Yzerman is home and gm of this team im happy with whatever happens, he has all the time in the world to build, tear down, and rebuild again as far as im concerned.
At least Husso is determined to make his game level better and more consitent. He declined the opportunity to come play in the WHC and will stay in NA to practice.
I don't feel like they will re-sign Erne or Oesterle… With the likes of Edvinsson and Johansson and even Wallinder I don't see why they'd keep Oesterle or Hagg. While on the forward side Soderblom, Kasper both look to have more of a NHL role next season while Mazur and Lombardi will look to fight for spots too so Erne would be on the outside looking in… And while I love what Chiasson did I feel like there will be someone brought in from the UFA market. Goalie wise I loved Husso but I feel like he was tired in the end having never played as much as he did before this season… He got burnt out… Cossa played amazing in the ECHL and is headed to AHL in GR next season before maybe having a look in 2024-2025 if he plays well. I feel like they go to the UFA market for a backup to help Husso.
I have all the faith in Stevie Y. We really need a couple of pure goal scorers. With the terrible lottery luck we've fallen behind on that, but Steve is doing just fine in trades and prospects so far. He said it would take time. I believe it. Tampa didn't just happen overnight.
