Goodbye WSL..Enjoy your mid season cut garbage, I'm off to watch Kelly Slater surfing wherever he pops up next
Glad to at least see no blackies in the comp. Keeping it worth supporting a bit
Kellys heat, it was close but overall Kelly won it
Kelly's surfing is still fresh and inspirational as ever. Shame to see him off the tour.
this mid season cut is infuriatingly stupid. Time to switch off.
I hear those who think Kelly was robbed. His surfing has always been on another level. This time Liam's surfing was on par and his is the new face and style of the month
Kelly winner.
Wow wslame has a definite agenda, I will love to see a financial report, the way they manipulate scores and cut offs can only benefit management.
No Kelly. No Tour.
Was he underscored on his wraps tho? No one else has been doing wrap around cut backs but him and it’s not an easy move !
Kelly isn't as good as he used to be, lol. Incredible career. But he has to know that he's nowhere nearly as good as he was 10 years ago. Miraculous that he's even remotely competitive
Kelly’s cat like balance underscored. Please end the mid season cut, the final 5 and go back to pipe for the conclusion of the season. Critical venue for a critical sport.
Damn this was a heartbreak heat for sure
Kelly robbed, underscored, WSL your Judges are wrong
Last wave of Kelly? (second turn amazing) UNDERSCORED
Roundhouse from Kelly in another wave.UNDERSCORED
First turns from diferent waves.of Kelly UNDERSCORED.
Best wave of the heat L. O'Brien
Very close heat.
No kelly… SHOW MUST GO ON!!!
Thanks for all Kelly. Blessings.
WELL DONE kELY …liam rips .
STOP messing with the speed on playback WSL
Kelly Will probably get injury replacement next year (it’s already happened to him a couple years back)
But the mid season cut is not fair. The surfer goes through years of hard work on the Challenger series to surf on the tour for just 4 events? That’s bullshit
The final 5 as well. The best surfer should be the one who performed the best the whole year, no the one who surfs trestles (witch is not the best wave in the world) the best. If they want to do the final 5 right, put the surfers on a boat in mentawai and test them on turns, barrels, airs and big waves
Today is a epic day.
Today I'm gonna dinner and Kelly Slater didn't make the cut.
Today I'm gonna surf and think, Kelly Slater didn't make the cut.
Today I'm gonna sleep in a day that Kelly Slater didn't make the cut.
Tomorrow I'm gonna wake up and Kelly Slater dind't make the cut.
Tomorrow I'm gonna ride my car and Kelly Slater didn't make the cut.
In what world we are living on? kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk strange moments. Never think I would ever see that day coming.
Kelly should not have wasted his time on those stupidly short boards FFS! I think he still is up there with the best but what happened was he was too good and got a bit bored so fucked around with new boards and stuff (which is great for the sport, and probably his business) but that hindered his competition results.
His ability is superior but he's on less than optimal equipment (for the conditions). Kelly is better but if he's going to win surfing comps he needs to stop fucking about with new shit (gear and moves) and just focus on solid clean power surfing with that little Kelly tweak that he used to do which wins comps (like what Ethan is doing now).
And once he's generated a decent lead in the heat then he can afford to dick around experimenting with risky moves.
I am gutted he missed the cut but I'm not sure how gutted Kelly is?
I mean at the end of the day he's done ok(!) and even he has to conceed to time and nature, and I am just some nobody spouting shit on the internet about stuff I will never experience so probably ignore this!
Kelly was pushing his limits. Thats was surfing means. Maybe two 8 or 9 in hos waves. What are looking the judges? FCK Im totally desagree
gonna be checking kelly at your local beach break comp
A 6.17 for Kelly on the best turn of the contest and Italo gets a 9 for one air? Give me a break.
Kelly’s second turn on the first wave was more critical than anything Liam or anyone else threw down. The way he tweaked it at the end then air dropped down. He was way underscored. Liam had a nice wave with conservative scores. This judging was way off.
mid season cut turned out, just as imagined, as a flaw. Waves were terrible at the first four events most of the time and those five ones do not represent the diversity of waves on tour.
How was Kelly’s first wave not a 9?
liam way overscored.
Kelly was doing very progressive moves with the beyond twelve turns… rare to see stuff like that but didnt get the scores on progression. Nothing against Liam, he put together great waves, but I think the way Kelly has been scored the last two years shows the cookie cutter nature of surfing now, and the loss of emphasis on progression. It makes me also think of a frontside air Jack Robinson recently sent that was season highlight for me but scored low because I guess they prefer tail high low spin baton twirling. For me as a fan the higher the air, the more x-factor the turns (think Dane), the better. Oh, and larger waves. The last two season have seemed disappointing but I guess you can mostly blame mother nature for that, but I think the judging criteria/method has a lot to do with it too.
Good luck wsl tennis tour without Kelly. Zero cultural relevance moving forward
Kelly is still elite level and the best to watch.
That roundhouse courtesy of Kelly is a Textbook. And underscored. The more things changes the more remains the same
Liam has that ugly double pump, looks like a cross of poddle and clown on a surfboard. Great surfer otherwise but doesn't it bother anyone else?
Well done to the youngster O'Brien he sent old Baldy Slater packing!
Slater needs to hang it up. I hear Baywatch Redux is in the mix. Maybe Slater can play the part of an old lifeguard! 😂😂😂
Slater needs to take a hint & go join Mick Mars in retirement 😅
Wow. What a sad end to the best career in professional surfing and one of the absolute best—if not the best—in sports history😕
We love you, Kelly.
Bosta de juízes!!
Liam will go down in history for knocking the goat off tour after an ungodly amount of time 😢
Probably worth a drop in on him out Burleigh 😉
MID SEASON CUT SUUUUCKS 🤮
Awesome surfing skills on display — by both surfers.
Liam a clear winner here. Slater's boards always seem skittish. Never understood why he started riding them, maybe he wanted the challenge of riding those springy unruly designs. Or maybe to try pushing boundaries more drawing even more unusual lines even if at some sacrifice to overall flow.
But I wonder how many more titles he would have won if he stuck with a more traditional design encouraging cleaner lines like channel islands days? Regardless, when you're goat you do what you want. Hats off to one of the greatest athletes of all time.
