  1. Hughes has said he WILL trade Chiarot and the closer we get to the trade deadline, the higher his value will be for contenders. I have no reason to think things are not going according to plan just yet. If Savard got a 1st and a 3rd, there is no doubt in my mind Chiarot can get at LEAST the same. My thinking is that instead of just picks, management wants an actual asset. A guy that will be able to play because it's one thing to trade Ben but who's gonna replace him in the lineup? At least, Edmundson is coming back so that could be something they've waited for as well.
I also wouldn't be against trading Chiarot and signing him as a UFA this summer (unless the asking price is too high, of course).

  2. I really don't think we are going to see many trades at the deadline. Montreal, Vancouver and Arizona are playing so much better, that they don't want to give up thier current players. The Red Wings look awful. And teams might be scared off from making deals with Yzerman. Teams only want to trade player contracts of equal value. Teams with cap space haven't made any trades. No incentive to make trades.

  3. The trade deadline wasn't started, after the first big trade by a cup contenders. A lot of trade could happen. It's always the same thing each year

  4. Chiarot for me is very useful. He is a good player and also carries some weight in the dressing room(my opinion) . But he isn't necessary for the habs to be legit. Cya Ben. Thanks.

  5. They’re over the cap, so they’re putting a high price to make room for they’re cap space

  6. Comparing him to Savard sounds as though it would make sense, but at some point you need to think of it in a fair way. I personally would be very appreciative to even just get a 1st with nothing else. Don't like the sound of that? There are ways around. Maybe it's B level prospect with a 3rd rounder. Maybe it's a lower level prospect with a 2nd rounder. Either way it would still be good for the future of the team. Getting assets is important, but don't sell too high, otherwise teams won't buy in.

  7. I think the Shea Weber trade is much more important for the Canadians than the Ben Chiarot trade. My guess is there’s teams lined up to get his 7.9 million cap hit relief for 4 years! Well his salary for those last four years is apparently only 6 million. I’m more interested to see what the Canadians get in that deal! That’s probably more than the Chiarot deal.

  8. For Ben Chiarot MTL fans want two 1st round picks two 2nd round picks a 3rd round pick a top prospect and a (good) young roster player.
It seems doable. Chiarot is one of the greatest NHL defenders of all time, so..

  9. You will get a late 1st rounder and be happy about it!!
Whoever pays the 1st will be overpaying and will be getting fleeced. Chiarot is tough but other than that, he’s a stiff

  10. If Savard is the basis of comparison, then I think Chiarot should fetch a 1st and a 2nd/or quality prospect. Easy. Chiarot isn’t a first pair power play specialist, but he’s night and better than Savard. He’s a physical beast, skates well and is decent offensively. Savard is basically a pylon.

  11. Not if Florida way overpays and Montreal crushed the trade. Unprotected(could be very important if florida nose dives in 2 years) 1st, 4th and a 3rd line prospect
