It’s not a tough fan base. Smith played 2 good games this year, the first 2 of the season and he’s stunk ever since. He’s been just awful this year and the coach just got fired for playing him again. Smith is the worst of the 3 goalies they’ve played this year, and that’s saying something as the other 2 have been poor. It’s not a tougher fan base or city than any other Canadian market, these fans have been subjected to crap goalies for about 5 straight seasons.
The fans mocking the goalie is like citizens criticizing the gas station for selling an arsonist a gas can the blame doesn’t solely fall on smith the players around him need to be held accountable for their poor defensive play the oilers played consistently for the first 15 games but since then they have been pretty brutal…

He says he wants to play, and he has "lots to give" still. Well, I wanna play too, but that doesn't mean the coach should put me in just because I want to play.
Smith's days as an NHL starter are over. I don't care if he had a good year last year. This is not last year. Edmonton needs a true starter, or they "will" miss the playoffs, and as much as people think there is no way McDavid will demand out of Edmonton, do you "really" want to put that theory to the test? Really?
Holland should have been the one to be fired. That roster is 3/4 an AHL team.
