  1. I still don't understand why there was no discipline for the hit on Pavelski. That hit was far more vicious than the Maker hit. Seems like the league knows they messed that one up and is trying to come down hard on anything remotely close since. I do think 1 game is fair for Makar but I think Dumba should've gotten something.

  2. Imagine if the justice system worked that way.

"Sir, you drove a semi 90 mph through an elementary school playground. But you were hauling insulin today, which is a lot more important than the stuff you normally transport. So I'm going to reduce your sentence by 66%."

  3. more tax dollars paying for billionaires' toy sheds. gotta love it!

  4. Fucking hilarious that Canadians have to spend all their tax money to get new rinks, and american cities just have them built at no cost. Absolutely fucking ridiculous

  5. As an Avs fan, the Makar suspension is the right call. That same breakaway happens 100 times in a season and almost always goes into the netting out of play. The refs actually handled it correctly by calling it a major first, then changing it to a minor penalty. Player safety said it’s worth 1 game and they have the final say

  6. Shannon. GO TO THAT GAME! We will all be FINE if you miss one day! The fine people on the internet demand justice for Yvonne and the Abbotsford Canucks!

  7. Honestly if they do a killer job at the new arena and surrounding area , I'd love to see two hockey churches in Alberta. make all other teams envious but also welcome with state of the art dressing rooms, decor and such

  8. This needed to happen. If you don’t believe for one second Bettman would persuade Flames owners to sell & move Calgary to Houston you’re naive

  9. Always liked the look of the Saddledome but it's probably past time Calgary has a new stadium.

Hope they keep the goal-horn…it's the best-sounding of all of them to my ears.

  10. Billionaire owner held out and city finally caved. Billionaires buy sports teams for fun now. They don’t need city money. Add to that salary cap exploding team values.

  11. I’ll believe the flames arena when I see it… I don’t want to get my hopes up just yet!!

  12. THG: Makar is suspended for one game for a hit to McCann.

Also THG: Nothing on McCann being out for the rest of the series.

If you want to be impartial Shannon, you will have to report on both sides of a matter.

  13. I still dont understand why they downgrade a penalty to a 2 minute minor then suspend him for the same hit.

  14. Hooray for Calgary fans. They can now join other markets that paid for a new building and get nothing but higher prices to attend

  15. Always felt that if a player commits a suspendable penalty that results in injury, the offending player should be out as long as the injured player (or at least that should be the starting point of discussion). Of course, if one of your top players commits the infraction on some scrub, the other team might just keep the scrub out of the line-up for good. Could be problematic that way.

Also, I feel bad for Calgary tax payers. Or any other city that forks over a ton of money so private investors can have easier profits. Hopefully this works out, and is advantageous (somehow) for Calgary. But if it blows up, it's the average tax payer that gets screwed. Will the viewers in Calgary have blackout conditions on the games? That type of thing is criminal. The people fund the team, and then can't watch them. Most probably can't afford a ticket either, but they got charged taxes to contribute. Never sat well with tax dollars going to sports at any level.

  16. I'm an Avs fan. It is what it is. It was a stupid play. No malicious intent by Makar. Just a stupid play. It would be nice if the NHL was more consistent with suspensions but whatever. Both teams will be without good players. The Avs need to figure out this Seattle team. The Avs have a very real chance at repeating but also have a very real chance and going home early.
