Jonas Siegenthaler had a goal and an assist for the New Jersey Devils in a 3-1 win against the New York Rangers in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference First Round at Madison Square Garden on Monday.
Siegenthaler scored his first playoff goal to give the Devils a 2-1 lead at 8:22 of the third period on a snap shot from the left face-off circle. New Jersey captain Nico Hischier threaded the needle on a pass from along the right wing half boards to find the Devils defenseman.
The best-of-7 series is tied 2-2. Game 5 will be in New Jersey on Thursday.
Ondrej Palat scored, and Akira Schmid made 22 saves for the Devils, the No. 2 seed in the Metropolitan Division. Schmid made 35 saves in a 2-1 overtime win in Game 3 here on Saturday in his first career Stanley Cup Playoff start.
Igor Shesterkin made 20 saves for the Rangers, the No. 3 seed in the Metropolitan.
New York went 0-for-3 on the power play after going 0-for-5 in Game 2.
Vincent Trocheck tied it 1-1 at 1:42 of the third period for the Rangers when he scored off a rebound from the slot. Chris Kreider took a backhand from the right hash marks that Schmid stopped before Trocheck scored his first of the playoffs on a wrist shot inside the right post.
Jack Hughes gave New Jersey a 1-0 lead at 2:50 of the first period, scoring on a breakaway while skating straight at Shesterkin after tucking a wrist shot inside the left post. Schmid made a pad save on a deflection from the slot by Alexis Lafreniere seconds earlier before Siegenthaler led Hughes with a backhand clearing attempt to center ice.
Palat scored an empty-net goal at 19:34 for the 3-1 final.

Asking the Rangers to beat the Devils 3 times in NJ let alone 4 is too much! You guys have a great defense but Shmid, Palat , our defense and our young Guns have been killing NY! It’s a young man’s game and the Devils keep getting better with every game plus they haven’t even really clicked on all cylinders yet! These boys can do way better once they’re more playoff tested and experienced!

Zero effort shown. Major lack of hitting after the first period. No urgency from any of our "star guys." Kid line had the most urgency by far and that should not be something to be too thrilled about especially in a game 4 where we could have had a commanding 3-1 lead. Mika and Artemi are actually invisible. I am still baffled Mika is not back in his regular spot on the PP he should have been there to start the game Gallant needs to make adjustments and quick because this series looked pretty much over after game 4.

Devils fan here. This has been a great series. I'm proud of the boys for bouncing back from consecutive 5-1 shellacking's in Jersey. But this series is far from over. The Rangers are a great team with experienced players. They're going to bounce back. Good luck and may the best team win!

Not gonna lie, as a Devils fan, it brings me joy to see this lol. Nothing against you personally but the way the Rangers players and fans were acting after game 2 was pretty distasteful. Laughing in the crowd and mocking the players. The boys just needed to shake off the jitters and now we have a series on our hands!
