Jake Muzzin Almost Takes Out Jack Campbell, A Breakdown (Maple Leafs vs Lightning)

In this video, I breakdown the goal that the Maple Leafs allowed to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1st period Thursday night to Pat Maroon where Jake Muzzin almost takes out goaltender Jack Campbell

  1. This was a terrible decision by Muzzin he can see 3 other guys in deep. Muzzin has unfortunately been brutal this year. Almost comically bad at times. I never thought I would say that.

  2. 2 players that i like that have always tried hard that i would like to see on either side of Spezza…..Liam Foudy and Mason Appleton.

  3. the most embarrassing thing about this game was that Sergachev didnt have to answer for that hit on Mitchy.

  4. Ritchie and Simmonds should be benched for not responding to the Marner hit. Every team in the league knows they can do what they want to the leafs STAR players and there is nobody to hold them accountable. This is why they can't win in the playoffs.

  5. Muzzin was at fault for making a cross ice pass when he was in deep and no one back…and Ritchie was a fault for not putting his head down and driving for the post

  6. Wouldn't Ritchie be making himself available to check any possible third man that could join in on the counter attack/clear any rebounds? Brodie could have moved more to the center lane to get more of a chance at the puck and bait Perry into driving. Muzzin's entire approach is more flash than substance and he should have been able to build up more speed wrapping himself around the net.

  7. I’m normally harsh on goalies but I don’t think Jack was soft on this. He had to have seen Muzzin barreling towards the goal at 100mph out of the corner of his eye and no matter how focused you are, that will take a little bit of it away which can result in a goal.

  8. And that’s why he’s on the fourth line , when they signed him I hated it I would have much preferred pius Suter

  9. Hey man I agree maybe he is overpayed at 2.5 mil but let's not throw Ritchie under the bus on this play? Your whole video was attacking the lack of speed a d aggression the aggression maybe but if I'm Ritchie and I see Corey perry has the puck my thoughts are well he's not fast but he has great shot and hands and if I go for hit and he sidesteps me I'm out of a play that we are already missing a defenseman on…. so instead he matches pace with perry and perry understood that he wasn't getting around Ritchie with his size hence the hail Mary pass but to make a video saying well I'm trying to analyze hockey better and yet not recognizing that the forward with the puck was the limiting speed on the play not Ritchie…. Muzzin almost made it back in time not because Ritchie was slow but because perry and maroon were slow and Ritchie was keeping pace? You want him to throw his stick out maybe get a penalty? You want him to back skate so he's parked in front of Campbell before the play ever reaches him? Or do you want him keeping pace with perry and taking away most of his options? I think I'll take the third option ….. sorry rant over 🙂 your videos are great man which is why I subscribe but if your gonna do a video and get mad at someone at least be mad for the right reasons

  10. 100% that was a brutal play by Ritchie and he's been pretty invisible. May have been the worst signing of the Bunting Kase group.

  11. I'm with you on your assessment with Ritchie and maybe I need to look back and video of him being successful. Maybe the leafs should watch Bruins video and attempt to utilize him the same way in bottom six? Bunting is a pleasant surprise as well. He won't score 40 but I can tell the team likes him and he's giving everything out there.

  12. Greetings from Forest Hill. Really nice job Stephen, you're getting smoother in your delivery with each video. If you can occasionally run a video clip or two, you'll be right on par with the rest of 'em. PS, kudos for not showing the kitchen! 😎🏑

  13. Good analysis. It hurts to think that for Ritchie's $2.5M and Mikheyev $1.65M, who is a pending UFA and he requested a trade, the Leafs could have afforded Hyman rumoured to have wanted $4M x8 NTC. They could LTIR Hyman's last year(s) if he had lost it.
Would you waive Ritchie? Would you pay Arizona a lower draft pick to take him?

  14. The five players who make 60% of the Leafs salary cap were trash defensively for 95% of the game and you want to make a diatribe against Richie. I mean, sure, he didn't play that well, but the players who are supposed to be leaders weren't. The thing I would fault Richie for was not fighting Sergachev. Simmonds too. Sergachev should have been eating knuckle sandwiches for the rest of the game, but the blame for bottom six guys stops there.

  15. These goal against breakdown videos are the best! Really, quickly becoming my favourite Leafs content.
