Lucas Raymond is a 2020 NHL Entry Draft eligible prospect who played his most recent season with the Frölunda HC in the SHL. Raymond is a top prospect in this year’s draft, with some outlets having him as high up as the 3rd best pick. Some outlets however, have him as low as 9th. In this video, we’re discussing the idea that was brought to my attention by a few viewers on whether or not the Ottawa Senators should take Raymond; the catch is though, we’re talking about with their 3rd overall pick, acquired from the San Jose Sharks in the Erik Karlsson trade, and not their 5th overall pick.

This idea is significant because for the longest time, the apparent consensus top three of the draft consisted of the Rimouski Océanic’s Alexis Lafrenière, the Sudbury Wolves’ Quinton Byfield, and the Adler Mannheim’s Tim Stützle.

  1. I think they should take a center and a winger in the draft for a amazing top line with Tkachuk in the future. They can take a D next year. Who would you rather have: Stutzle and Rossi or Byfield and Raymond?

  2. This is scary to think about because it reminds me of another Red Wings draft, Zadina falls to Detroit and they take him over Quinn Hughes(ouch), Now Byfield Drops Because Ottawa takes Raymond and Detroit takes Byfield and Doesn't get Drysdale and if he pans out to be really good you could have passed on having one of the best top line D pairings in the entire league, a lot of if and maybes but isn't that what this channel does, heck make a video on this scenario

  3. My top 10-ish list is:
    1) Stutzle – elite player, can play Center, could be better than Laf
    2) Lafreniere – elite player, winger, nothing left to prove
    3) Raymond – elite player, winger, had a fractionally better season than Stutzle
    4) Drysdale – excellent player, RHD
    5) Byfield – ??? player, center, incomplete junior season with mediocre tourney results
    6) Sanderson – excellent player, LHD, defensive monster
    7) Perfetti – very good but flawed player, C
    8/9) Lundell/Holtz – very good players, W’s
    10) Askarov – excellent player, G

I rank players not only by ability but by positional value. 1C>=RHD>LHD>W>G. This is not necessarily how important a position is to a team but instead reflects NHL demand due to rarity of players in that positional role.

  4. Now this would be a proper curve ball…. I've suggested before that Raymond could rise in the draft IF he has a flyer later in the year. This is a dream scenario for Wings fans as the possibility of Quinton Byfield is even better than the Zadina scenario IMHO. There's still an outside chance that the Sens bank on the Red Wings taking Steutzle/Byfield by the Sens drafting either Raymond or Drysdale at 3. Whichever way you look at this the Sens are in a win win situation, they're guaranteed to get 2 of Steutzle, Byfield, Drysdale, Raymond, Askarov, Perfetti or Holz….how hard that must be for their GM!!!!

  5. Just another reminder that none of these rankings are ever 100% accurate. Every year we see picks that differ from the rankings. Anything can happen. But I still want the wings to get Stutzle lol

  6. Ottawa will not pass on Byfield or Stutzle lol. It also looks like Detroit will take Perfetti or Drysdale so we could take him at 5.

  7. As a sens fan, I would like either Byfield or Rossi at 3, and hopefully Raymond at 5 (assuming DET takes Perfetti at 4). Stutzle is a great player, but not what OTT needs. LW is pretty filled on the depth chart for the sens and I think that's what Stutzle will be at the NHL level. We need a #1 potential C (Byfield or Rossi) and more RW depth (Raymond)

  8. Man I've come to realize, your videos are like Naruto. 2 minutes of facts 8 minutes of filler just to make it an episode.

Why don't you make 1 good video filled with lots of information, and not 10 videos stretched to 10 minutes just to make more money. That's selfish.

  9. Well it is interesting I could see it, A lot more teams are starting to draft based off what the teams needs instead of draft position because if a team can fill a hole with a good player I think they would do it. What ever team Byfield falls to and they have two really good first and second line centers I don’t see them drafting Byfield and he would fall more

  10. All fake news. Rumors of Byfield not being #2 are being pushed by the Sens because they want him bad. Kings should take Byfield for sure.

  11. No Raymond is to much of a risk he didn't play enough.
i wouldn't even lock him at 5th he'd be my second choice at 5th. Mostly because hes younger then the other fwd on my list and we need a RW more then a center or Dman it's a coin flip for me on Byfield or Stutzle. I'd trade my pick at 5th if Rossi is gone, for 2 further down if we are stuck drafting Raymond at 5. Btw.I'm a Sens fan

  12. I just pray that Detroit don't pick Drysdale, we need goal scoring. we have good prospects on D already

  13. Lucas Raymond is definitely not going 3rd overall. It makes absolutely no sense at all for Ottawa to draft Raymond at 3. Put that story to bed. Either 2 scenarios i see happening with the #3 pick. They either draft Byfield, or they trade down 1 spot, get Detriot's #4 and 32 pick (i wouldnt take any less than that), and guarantee to get Rossi. If they get Rossi, they arent going to draft Raymond at 5 when they can trade down another spot or two, get another second rounder, and get Jack Quinn. If Ottawa gets Rossi, in my opinion its Quinn > Raymond because of the instant chemistry they have being linemates with the 67s, and was a 50 goal scorer with Rossi. Ottawa is already good for left wingers, and only missing that #1 center, and really need help on the right wing, and Rossi/Quinn combo gets you that #1C and #1RW. If Ottawa picks Byfield at 3, then I would go for Raymond. Sens have always been very good at scouting, so I definitely dont see them messing this up.

  14. If I had a say…. Byfield is my pick if he's still available… Reason… the best fit for Byfield would be his winger in Tkachuk… He would be the best mentor to show Byfield how to use his body and that could be scary and hopefully Raymond is still there at 5… if not Raymond,Rossi

  15. Possible. Only limitations Raymond has is his shot selection. Strength is about on par with that age, but needs development. He is energy on ice, does not camp out and take shifts off. Forechecks and backchecks, willing to go into rough parts of the boards and help out teammates, will help out in front of the net. Has vision to find open areas and exploit passing lanes.
I think the Red Wings would be mistaken on passing on Lucas. He has relatives in New Jersey so Lucas with the Devils at pick 7 would be a feel good story.

  16. The top 3 are locked in. 1 pound of hickory smoke bacon for everyone if Raymond goes 3rd.

  17. I'm going to be very interested in the play in series for 2 reasons; the obvious of who will make the playoffs, but the other tantalizing bit is who will get the 1st overall pick. There have been rumblings already as for who should and shouldn't get the pick, as it highlights the flaw in this procedure. I mean, if Edmonton or Pittsburgh get 1st overall, there may be riots and looting. Even the Leafs; c'mon! So there's obviously an interesting subplot beyond who advances. You can't script this stuff. I know the Canucks have NEVER had the good fortune to pick 1st overall, and it's only some luck that certain players dropped to us. Gio, what would you suggest the Canucks do if they did get 1st overall? Trade to Sens for 3rd, 5th and Eriksson's contract? I've heard that rumour going around. Or would you hang on and draft Lafreniere to play alongside Petterson and Boeser? Personally I think there's several good LW prospects that could take that spot this year. I'm interested to hear your opinion. Thanks. Good video, as always.

  18. as a sens fan i like raymond because he is from alfie's hometown, but not at 3. maybe 5 but rather rossi if hes there

  19. Raymond will be there at 5 so no reason to reach with a 3rd overall pick.. no way they go out of the tier (1st tier Laf, 2nd tier Byfield/Stutzle).. having said that if it’s Byfield left instead of Stutzle I wouldn’t be mind blown if they choose someone else.. Raymond undoubtedly will be there at 5

  20. Ottawa senators needs him , I looked him up and he is really good 👍. If you don't believe me look it up on the internet

  21. Raymond and Holtz are overrated. Drysdale and Rossi should both go in the top 5. I personally think Drysdale should go in the top 3.
I swear, if the Wings pass on Byfield, Drysdale, or Rossi…… I'll be so mad. I just have a feeling Yzerman will want Raymond or Holtz.

  22. This is not a rumour this is just a random guy saying he would personally take Raymond at 3. I remember reading the article and thinking to my self thankfully he is not responsible for Ottawas decision. I don't think Raymond is a tier above Byfield. Often when some says they have someone other than Byfield or Stuzle in the top 3 then they say there is a group of more than 2 players who can go at 3. However people who say there is a tier of 2 often just group Byfield and Stuzle there. I think most sens fans can agree it would be a horrible decision not to take Byfield/Stuzle at 3.

  23. i can understand using 5th overall on him but i'd be mad if they chose him at 3

  24. If Sens take Raymond at either 3rd or 5th I’ll be fkn pissed at my Sens…again. Nothing new I guess lately. Raymond is talented but Lazy! We need hard workers and good example for the rest of the young team. Guy is amassing one game and he disappears for 2. Pick Stutzle/Byfield and Rossi. That’s it that’s all.
