  1. Leafs might have another trade coming. Sandin may have been frustrated still and Leafs might flip the 1st. Gustafsson has been putting up o numbers but bad defensively. Sandin is only 22 and has so much time to develop.

  2. I would have traded Reilly for fleury. Sick of give away guys who play D but spend more time in the opposing zone than they're own

  3. I can't believe you said "Leaf fans are going to regret this trade even if the Leafs have playoff success this year"….interesting…19 year playoff drought and we are keeping the core four and going to the final 8? Promise me that right now and not only would I say bye bye to Sandin but Robertson too! Yes I'm one of those people who disagrees with you but I'm just exercising my freedom of speech not knocking you or trying to disrespect. Just can't believe any die hard Leaf fan who has suffered the past 19 years would devalue what advancing to the 2nd round means for this generation of Leaf fans and Matthews, Marner and co.'s development. Peace ✌️

  4. The Leafs are all in, and this player and pick won't last longer than the deadline. This pick and player will be traded for a better player, and in the end, I'm sure you'll be happier. Don't judge the soup till it's done!

  5. Sandin was never getting out of the 3rd pairing on this team and his defensive numbers stunk. He was bad against Montreal and rightfully scratched against Tampa. Lilijgren far surpassed him.

A big problem was the contract hold out and he didn't exactly prove dubas wrong by forcing his way up the lineup.

People are so focused on Holl to the point of lunacy. Holl played top minutes against top players. Sandin was a disaster at the top or middle pair. Not to mention he couldn't play the right side. Sandins points on a 3rd pair against weaker competition are not representative of what he can do moving up the lineup.

This is a fantastic trade for the leafs. Rielly and sandin were the worst defensemen and obviously sandin was going to go over Rielly.

The 1st can be used to acquire someone like nick schmaltz now. Gustafsson is a backup for Rielly in case of injury. Sadly gustafsson probably offers what rielly does for 1/7th the cost. It does give him a wake up call to play better because Rielly not playing up to his contract.

  6. Have you watched a game this year bud? Sandin shrivels up when the going gets tough. He’s abysmal statically against teams with heavy forchecks. Look at his numbers when heavy teams dump it in against him specifically. Terrible numbers. Especially against Tampa and Boston. This is about the playoffs. This year specifically. Sandin wouldn’t even be in the lineup. Reilly goes down and Gustafsson instantly steps in to fill that void on PP1. And he could arguably do that even with Reilly in the lineup. Reilly is the weak link on that PP. big time!!!! That being said I wouldn’t be surprised if he flips Gustafsson and the first rounder for a top 6 winger. This is a great trade. Give your head a shake pal lol

  7. This is all about going for it this year bro. That’s it! Sandin wouldn’t help us at all this year. I’m baffled by your take. Baffled.

  8. Sandin has the lowest % of TOI against the other teams top forwards, the highest % of O-zone face-offs, and no PK time this season. In contrast, Holl has the highest % of TOI against the other teams top forwards, the highest % of D-zone face-offs, and play on the PK. Yes, Holl can be inconsistent but comparing the two players is apples and oranges. Lastly Sandin only has one more year on his contract and while a RFA I am not certain the Leafs would be able to afford his next contract so I don't know if he would stick around past then anyway.

  9. This is Sandin's 5th year pro. It's not the 70s when it took D until 25 to develop. Sandin will get a little better with more ice time and experience, but not much. The first thing he has to do is lose the shinny mode crap. He also gets caught running around in the D zone, often in between plays and losing his mark in the process. He's a liability in playoff hockey. I hope he turns the corner and has a good long career. He seems like a likeable guy. He was the odd man out on the Leafs D though, and his up side isn't enough to hang onto in a window year when deals need to get done.

  10. I agree, bad trade. Sandin was the future of the defense. Should have traded Holl and Kerfoot away or at least Kerfoot.

  11. Rasmus is 8th in terms of points among his draft class in terms of d men. I agree when this guy is in the top 4 and gets proper minutes he can only get better. Leaf management is hyperfocused on protecting their top guys and just lay waste to 2nd and 3rd tier talent.

  12. They gonna trade the pick they had issues with sandin I loved sandin he’s underated Washington made out great

  13. Sandin was to small they wanna win now they freed up cap space there gonna trade that pick and hopefully holl and kerfoot to

  14. Dude quit crying. Sandin was getting pushed around. Do you even watch the leafs in the playoffs he's a boy VS men

  15. As a Capitals fan, I'm happy with these trades. Orlov was one of my favorite players, but he was going to be a UFA in the offseason, and we got a pretty good return for him. And we've replaced him in the lineup with someone much younger in Sandin.

I can see why the Leafs traded Sandin – he wasn't happy getting 3rd D minutes and he wasn't getting the opportunities that he deserved, and he didn't really fit into the Leafs' win now mindset. But it was shortsighted of them to trade him.

It's hard to balance building the best team this year with building the best team long term. The Capitals are dealing with that because they're one of the oldest teams in the league and they have to focus on helping Ovechkin get to 895 goals and they have to keep the Capitals good enough to make sure that Ovechkin stays a Capital for his entire career and doesn't get traded or end up on a rebuilding Capitals team. These moves have helped the Capitals stay good enough for this year, but also to help the Capitals stay good enough for the rest of Ovechkin's career.
