Sheldon Keefe basically confirmed the next day at practice that they had seen these analytics before the series.

If stuff like this came out more often/was advertised better it would be good for the sport. It would help distinguish what is good hockey sense, from actual strategy. Lots of other sports have done this, and it can make the viewing better, some of it is just because it’s harder to hide, like the shift in baseball. Show us some easy basic stuff like this that film study can reveal.

People act like they “just go out there and play” as if they aren’t acutely aware of where they and everyone else stand in advanced metrics. But the minute someone opens their mouth publicly and suggests teams actually study the game Twitter flips its shit.
