What should we talk about tomorrow?
I wouldn't wish the back up goalie job in Vancouver on my worst enemy. You're playing behind one of the single worst defensive teams (both now and probably historically as bad as those Nordiques teams in the late 80s), particularly defensive cores, in the NHL, for probably lower pay than everyone else. And at best, assuming Thatcher stays healthy, you're only playing 30 games tops. It's extremely difficult to get into a rhythm as a goaltender when you're not playing that much. If the Canucks ever get into the playoff race, Demko will play more, which means you're throwing an even colder backup goalie out there every once in a while and hoping he doesn't hurt the team because everyone is so close now. Spencer Martin would probably still be the backup today if Demko didn't get seriously injured. The problem was that he was forced into playing too many games and he couldn't handle it. He's an NHL backup at best, if not an AHL goalie.
