  1. Number 9 Is Carter that's it that's all. You don't reach on a class of tackles that would be 15 to 25 picks.

  2. The last time the Bears won a Super Bowl they actually had a great GM in Jerry Vainisi, may he RIP, and he knew how to construct a team. He built the team in the "trenches" by drafting offensive and defensive linemen early in the Draft. His first selection ever was Jimbo Covert with the 6th pick in the 1983 Draft. How did that turn out? I hope new GM Ryan Poles follows in the footsteps of the late, great Jerry Vainisi and drafts an offensive or defensive lineman for it will improve the Bears the most and that's what the NFL Draft is all about!

  3. The simple way to look at the top of the draft goes like this. Let's take the top 10 players (arguably, in no particular order) in the draft. At QB: Young, Stroud, Levis, Richardson. At DL: Carter, Anderson, Wilson. At RB: Robinson. At CB: Gonzales, Witherspoon. Given that there are eight picks before the Bears, it is a certainty that at least two of these players will be available at #9 (more if some team takes a flyer on someone not on this list).

If one or two QBs are there, that presents an opportunity to trade down. If a DL is there, it presents an opportunity to get a blue chip player, or trade down for a haul. I guess the worst case scenario for the Bears would be for there to be Robinson and a CB or two CBs. Even then, there's some trade down possibility – someone may want to jump the Eagles to get Robinson, or the final remaining top CB.

It's going to be an interesting evening. My gut is telling me that every time a team ahead of the Bears takes a QB, CB, or RB, Bears fans should be happy.

Final comment on Carter: it's possible that the Bears have removed Carter from their board. After all, he's the antithesis of a HITS guy. Hustle? When he feels like it. Intelligence? See drag racing incident. Turnovers? None, unless you include vehicles, …. Smarts? Again, see drag racing incident. So he may be off their board for that reason. But it's certain that he's not off everyone's board, and if the Bears want good value for a trade, they need to have the threat of taking him themselves.

Say Carter is on the board at #9. Bears offer Steelers #9 for #17, #32, and their first round pick next year. High price, absolutely. But they aren't offering the #9 pick, they are offering a chance to draft Jalen Carter, a player with the talent to be the first overall pick. The price the Bears are asking is about right for the #1 pick, maybe a bit too cheap, even. Offer that, and then settle for #17, #49 and a first next year or #17, #32, and a second next year or a first in '25. That's playing hardball. Will it happen? I doubt it, but that's what I'd try to do.

  4. I could see Carter here if he slips. Then pray Bergeron or the right tackles from Georgia and Oklahoma, makes it to their first pick in round two. They risk all first and second tier OT prospects being gone with the Carter pick. Then what do they do with that gaping hole in the OL?
