The sports bra is in a frame at my house – Brandi Chastain | FIFA Women’s World Cup

Brandi Chastain, Kristine Lilly, Briana Scurry, Michelle Akers, Mia Hamm and Julie Foudy reminisce over the 1999 Women’s World Cup final of United States vs. China, where the U.S. prevailed 5-4 on penalties, completed by Chastain’s iconic goal celebration. Chastain recounts her thoughts as she stepped to the penalty spot, the emotions leading up to the moment and her belief they would win after Scurry saved China’s third penalty. Akers also recollects being in a medical room after a collision with Scurry during the final at the Rose Bowl, where she ripped out her IV’s to go celebrate with her team.

  1. I remembered back when this happened and being dumbfounded by pundits who sexualized it. I was in middle school I think.

  2. don’t let this distract you from the fact that uswnt one lost to fc dallas and usmnt academy players

  3. Lets be real the US was only good women's soccer because the rest of the world didn't care about female soccer. Now the real soccer nations are taking it seriously you can already see the decline of the US women's team. They are just as bad as the men, but just didn't have the competition the men's team had.

  4. Brandi Chastin is so hot😍😘. I always had a crush on her! The women are doing well in Fifa right now!!💪🏽

  5. Seven years old I went to the women's world cup final at the rose bowl in Pasadena. Proudest sporting moment I've ever observed. I have two cousins on a full ride to play soccer indirectly linked to this team. Inspirational

  6. I liked the fact that Chastain acknowledged that it was their Goalie who had won the game. That girl has never gotten the credit she deserved for that. The Girls on her team know – but the general public is clueless.

  7. The 99 World Cup team was the only team deserved to win it. They were true professionals, and didn't use their sport to promote any political agenda.

  8. You heard of Bobby Thompson's 1951 "The Shot Heard Round the World?" (which BTW had a 21 year old Willie Mays waiting on deck!), well Brandi is forever immortalized as "The Strip Heard Round the World"!

  9. I was 11 years old when I saw that moment. I instantly fell in love with the game that year. I ended up attending a soccer camp when I was a kid. She ran the camp so I got to meet her which was extremely awesome. She’s a really sweet person. I played soccer in HS and College and I was a defender as well. It was really ironic because my senior year of college our school was national Champions that year and I ended up scoring the winning goal for our school. I actually celebrated the same way and just like her it wasn’t planned. Being a defender that was my only goal scored during my soccer career so it just ended up happening like that. I follow the national team heavily to stay in touch with the game.
