Bruins’ Jim Montgomery On Sobriety, Positive Thinking and His Evolution As A Coach
Life is great for Jim Montgomery. That wasn’t the case a few years ago when he was battling alcoholism and lost his job with the Dallas Stars. Jim is sober now and he credits empathy, grace and gratitude for his path to recovery. Montgomery and the Bruins have been a perfect fit en-route to an historic season.

This man is a gem. What a beaut
Jim tell us what you did
Jack Adams or Masterton… He should get at least one.
picked up alot of people at the deadline, and signed alot of contracts this year, but Monty might be my favorite
Wow. Huge respect. Getting sober is brutal, and to not only succeed but come back to coach the best regular season team of all time? What a story.
Doesn't matter what club you represent. We can all support people who are struggling. Jim seems like a great guy and I respect the grind to stay sober and stay positive. I'm on a similar journey myself. It's refreshing to see people who are turning their life around!
So proud to have Montie in my city! Makes me even prouder to be a Bostonian! So glad he was given a second chance! Great man, great coach, the lot!
Love this, Jim is a great guy and coach, couldn’t be happier to have him leading the Bruins
Jim youve been an amazing coach for our team . but your personal struggle finding sobriety is even more inspirational … we all have your back bud … keep doing you ….your on a great track … we believe in you!!!!! and thank you for what youve brought to Boston….we love you bud
Go Bs.
I hate the Bruins a little less after seeing this clip. Jim seems like a hell of a guy! I still wouldn’t have a beer with him though. Lol. Wings would be a better option. Glad you are sober, Jim. ❤️🩹
Habs fan, for anyone who cares.
His temperament and positive vibes jump off this guy, he's the perfect coach for the perfect team, I'm old hockey player from Boston and I'm bias but this team is the most balanced hockey team I've seen in my 62 years, I'm also sober now and I know how hard it is to stop, he's a great example of, rise, recover, live. Good luck Jim and go B's.
St Louis Blues loss was a big gain for Boston. A 1st class guy and coach. Best of luck.
So happy for him and much respect for doing an interview about his sobriety.
Please little drinking and millionaire he can go pay get fixed what joke us poor people have to suffer and withdawl without help
Wow as if I wanted the bruins to win a cup even more than I already do. What a positive message that would be from the lowest lows to the highest of highs in the NHL. JM Stanley cup champion! LETS GO BRUINS!
Wake the f up and go end this series. Don't pull another Boston choke.
Best team in history and now we play like the 2018 playoff Bolts.
wake up
As a Stars fan, I'm happy to see Monty back behind the bench, sober. He's a great coach. I'm sorry things ended as they did in Dallas, but it's probably better for him that he was forced to address the problem. Many more sober years for you, Jim!
