Champs To Chumps – 2007 Anaheim Ducks

After becoming the first Californian franchise to lift the Stanley Cup, the 2007 Anaheim Ducks whilst remaining a competitive team for many seasons have been unable to clinch a second cup victory since their historic win over a decade ago. So, why not? In this video, we take a look at what led the 2007 Anaheim Ducks to go from champs, to chumps!

  1. What a year that cup run was!! Little upset pual kayria wasnt around for the cup win. Especially after all he did in their first finals run.

Kuintz has 4 cups? That's certainly interesting.

And how many times has pronger and lupul been connected through trades? 3 I think…..crazy.

  2. Well just look at the one of the trades they did last week, they traded Aberg (who was #2 in goals for the Ducks) for some AHL'er that nobody ever heard of. They just make some really dumb trades, Eaves and Henrique trades from last season haven't amounted to shit.

  3. It makes me sad to say this, as I am a fan of this team, but how about a look at the downfall of the Detroit Red Wings following their last cup win in 2007-2008?

  4. the problem with the Ducks they've lost their image, They should have NEVER!!! changed the name or Jerseys. I am a huge Ducks fan since the beginning and I think with injuries this season they will be very lucky to get a wildcard spot for the playoffs. Dare I say could you do something like this with the UK teams in the EIHL perhaps Sheffield Steelers this season lol.

cracking video bud and don't forget Panthers Vs Devils free on Youtube – 6:55pm on Panthers youtube page tomorrow night

  5. Do you know much about this game or do you just lie back and spout off stats? Sorry, silly question.

  6. Todd Marchant was never on the Ducks' infamous checking line. It was Moen-Pahlsson-Niedermayer and that was the only line that was unbroken all season.

  7. @Odd Man Rush Hey Man U should do a series about every year in the nhl 1 vid or 2 watch week from the first year to present talking about headlines controversy surprises etc. hope you do it also for whatever happens to do Martin gerber who was a great player won 38 games in 05-06 and over 30 again thanks

  8. John Gibson could be having numbers that Giguere had if it wasn’t for a terrible defence that he was having to bail out

  9. Oh yeah still been "legitimate contenders" but they're chumps? >_> streak is going to end this year but they have the longest active 100-point season streak so lots of other teams that could be considered chumps then.

  10. If the ducks had played their cards right, this team could have dominated the league for a few years… But of course, management had to fuck it up.

  11. As a sens fan if the ducks didn't have Pronger and the sens still had Hashik or Laime I think Ottawa would have won that year in 2007

  12. The only one left in this championship roster is Ryan Getzlaf.

Corey Perry is now in Dallas.

  13. The 2007 Duck team was very stacked. I am so happy that they won the Cup that year. They did everything right to make their stuff work. They have super star power, sturdy defense, undrafted players and draft picks producing points, and their goaltending was great. Unfortunately, the later Ducks fell into a bad habit of losing home Game 7s and other postseason games. That was pretty tragic and they never got back the glory they earned in the 2007 season. I remembered going to a dinner with my tennis team while Game 5 of the finals took place. That team was so strong and to took out the sting on that 2003 Stanley Cup finals. So close the Cinderella Mighty Ducks team to win the series against the Devils back in 2003. Instead of Scott Niedermayer beating Rob's team, they joined forces and won the cup together. Great times, and add some clutch performances by Selanne against the Red Wings on Game 5 of the WCF. Best Ducks team ever created.

I still feel bad for Paul Kariya not winning cup back in 2003. Kariya and Selanne were best buddies and they played well together. I still remember his legendary Game 6 SCF goal though with Gary Thorne's best line, the "Off the floor, on the board" call.

  14. Here’s to hoping some of the ducks promising young players can lead them back to the top in front of arguably the most underrated goalie in the league.

  15. Imagine being a Wings fan, and the roller coaster ride we've been on. Sure, we've had ten Cups, but the first seven was in the first thirty or so years. Then for forty-some years we had the best golfers in the league, due to the fact they were always among the first ones to finish league play, and hit the fairways for the summer. That was most of my life.
Then we hit that twenty-five year streak, that did add three more Cups. A great core of players, that stayed together for a long time, experienced free agents who could buy into the system for a couple of years, then a mass exodus due to retirements, without many being brought up from the minors during that time to be ready to replace the older players.
Man, are we paying for that now. We do get too attached to our players, which makes it hard to replace them. Nobody wanted to see Chelios, Datsyuk, Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Draper, Maltby, McCarty, or Osgood and the like leaving, but there is something to be said about going out on top, while you still have your health.

  16. Wasn't Dustin Penner offer-sheeted out of Anaheim by Edmonton, the last successful offer sheet to date?

  17. They really had a good chance to go back to the cup finals in 16 and 17 but naw bad coaching does wild things

  18. Perry left for Dallas to make a shock 2nd appearance at the SCF, then moved to Montreal.

  19. Part of the reason they didn’t make the Cup Finals again was because BBQ Bruce Boudreau is a choker.

    Roses are red
    Violets are blue
Bruce chokes on that Game 7 BBQ.
