Travis Hamonic traded by the Canucks to the Ottawa Senators

The Vancouver Canucks have traded defenceman Travis Hamonic to the Ottawa Senators for the Sens’ third round pick in the 2022 draft.

The third-round draft pick initially belonged to Vancouver and was traded to Vegas in exchange for Nate Schmidt in October 2020 before the Senators then acquired it from Vegas alongside Nick Holden in exchange for Evgenii Dadonov.

  1. Halak should of been the one to go even though he has no move clause he should know better to waive and accept trade if he doesn't like the fact that he doesn't like be called to play as backup after pulling Demmer though Demmer backed him so many times after Halak being pulled after multiple games. Does Demmer get upset having to play backup goalie and having to play back to back on days? I don't think so. Halak should know better

  2. Good job! As long as we get anything in return without taking any salary back I'm happy

  3. Awesome. Now imagine moving Myers, Poolman, Dickinson, Pearson and of course moving on from Chiasson and Halak at the end of the season. That would set up a nice clean slate.

  4. Glad to see the d getting reshaped already! Hamonic was kinda a pillon and the d is what is dragging this team down other than Hughes and schenn🤣

  5. a great trade, but it is puzzling that the Sens would be buyers at this time of the year.

  6. The first of several trades I'm assuming. Who's next? Motte would be the next most likely before the deadline, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Garland or Boesser traded by the deadline. If not by the deadline, then quite possibly in the off season. This team definitely needs some sort of rebuild, and I wouldn't be surprised if Captain Bo is no mo' ahead of next season.

  7. i think it would be better if we waived poolman idk seems like hes brought nothing but negative things to this team

  8. I wish him all the best. He's a better D man than he got credit for, but too many games missed and hard to get in the groove.

  9. Jim Rutherford has stated many times he needed to reduce the cap hit and build up draft picks. That is what he has done here. Short term pain, long term gain.

  10. it's actually our own third rounder. don't think it makes much of a difference though

  11. Here's what I'm wondering. When it was obvious Hamonic deal was a salary dump and get a useful pick back in return, how come we wasted that pick right away and picked up Dermot, although his salary cap is half that of Hamonic. Arn't we supposed to keep dumping all the players as many as possible until we have become bare, since our hope for the playoffs is far and away this year, and we don't have a good enough team to compte in the post season even if we somehow miraculously made it in. Arn't we supposed to be stocking for the future, situate the team in a better position salary cap wise?

  12. they got their own 3rd in the deal and then traded the winnipeg 3rd to toronto for dermott. got younger and save 1.5 mil.

  13. The fact Ottawa gave a 3rd rounder for Hamonic is beyond me. He was a bottom tier defensemen and @ 3m a year until next season. Terrible trade.

  14. I'm actually really happy with this. I have sympathy for the family problems he had at the start of the year and all that but from a business perspective he was unreliable.
