This year’s crop of rookies lacks a clear #1, though Beniers is likely the one to take the trophy home in June.

Should be between Beniers and Power, given their age and actually playing their first full seasons. Not to mention their respective teams weren’t expected to be where they are (up 3-2 vs. the Cup defenders, this close to reaching a spot.)
Id vote for maccelli
It should be Kuzmenko, but the NHL is being discriminatory because of his age and nationality.
It SHOULD be Skinner… it won't be, though. Goaltenders are slower to develop (is what everyone says) and for Skinner to play in 50 games and earn a .656 points percentage speaks volumes about his impact. Do the Oilers even make the playoffs with how sketchy Soup played? Maybe a WC spot… maybe.
With the top scorer on only 57 points could be the year for a goalie for the first time in ages.
Process of elimination:
G – Skinner over Thompson
D – Power over Sanderson
PO F – Beniers over Johnston
The last 3 is real tough to pick. Similar contributions on similar teams.
Top 3 – Beniers, Skinner, Powers
My guess – Skinner #1, Beniers #2
Skinner and Beniers, but I’m hoping skinner, he totally took on as the starter goalie to bring the team to the playoffs. Whoever brings them the furthest in the playoffs would probably influence the outcome . Beniers has played good as well but with 57 points it doesn’t seem like big numbers compared to what rookie numbers were in the past few years
Nah, Sanderson has already surpassed Chabot. No more shadow there and everyone in Ottawa is aware of that. I‘d expect a big contract this summer
What gets me is Power is so calm. He has the mentality of a defenceman thats been playing in nhl for years.
I think one thing that's not talked about as much as it should be is that Beniers only took 1 penalty in 80 GP. It's not like he doesn't check hard either. I think I read he's the first player in NHL history to have 2 PIM and 50+ pts in a season. Very very impressive
Power or Skinner seem like the best choices to me.
I think Beniers gets it. He's been such a big part of this surging Seattle team. Skinner 2nd and Maccelli 3rd. If Maccelli played the full season though, I think he would have ran away with it
I think if Matty didn't miss the all star game and get the injury that clearly affected his scoring after he got back from it he'd be an instant lock. As is, he's clearly the front runner but Skinner seems the most likely upset
Sens guy so I'm clearly biased but Sandy tends to be forgotten with all these other young studs so thanks for mentioning him.
Maccelli deserves it, played on the shittiest team.
Skinner competent and thats all the oilers need with the lethal offense.
No chance he wins.
it's Beniers' to lose, but I'd say Marchenko earned an honorable mention.
Matty by a mile. He should also be considered for Lady Byng, as he has taken exactly 2 minutes in penalties all year, even as he has drawn a ton by his play.
Matias Maccelli was the best rookie this season, too bad he was injured for a long period so he didn’t win the rookie scoring he would’ve won had he played entire season.
You should do a video on past Calder winners and their success later on in their career
Often the Calder is affected by opportunity/ice time/linemates. Granted all of this has to be earned but is at least partially dependent on the teams composition/injuries/coaching
Skinner wins it. The starting goalie on a cup contender in a canadian market. The pressure he plays with all the time and how well he does with it is incredible. Beniers and Power get carried.
I would have liked to have seen draft year included on the board just for reference.
Beniers is likely winning it…but I think top 3 will be Matty, Skinner, Power
When does a rookie season start? Guys like Kartye got called up during the playoffs- would that disqualify them for next year if he continues playing in the NHL? Genuinely do not know and am curious.
Would have liked to see a brief mention of Marchenko. 21 goals in 59 games ain't bad. Understandable exclusion though. I think he's going to be a fan favorite for a very long time to come.
Skinner 🤞
Kuzmenko even though he's not eligible.
