As much as I want Iggy on the staff for the nostalgia, I think it makes sense to let him develop as a coach. I could see him being the HC in 10 years if that’s what he wants.
My understanding is that he has been coaching at one of the academies in BC while his children attended. Coaching the Blazers seems like a natural next step for him given his history + ownership.
If he succeeds there who knows… of course this is wild speculation on my part.
I love Iggy, but being completely honest, I don’t want this to become a “boys club” like the Oilers had. Let Iggy keep coaching, and if he earns the shot eventually, then hire him
I am concerned the Iggy too nice of guy to coach. I thinks he needs seasoning, some failure and some time overcoming obstacles to be an effective coach.
He’s got the hockey part and communication part covered, so it won’t take him long to develop some crankiness.
I’m all for the Flames investing in developing Iginla into a member of the coaching staff or management.
