It's definitely not like Rays and Yankees. Devils since they got here in 82 have been much better run and have had much more success than the Rangers have had in that time. Rangers spend money on old players whose name has outlived their skills. It worked once with Messier but it's back fired every other time.
Yes, we aren't an original six team but we are not a small market team being only 11 miles from MSG. The most apt comparison I ever saw were that the Devils are the San Antonio Spurs of hockey; a successful dynasty period and well run team that isn't flashy but does fundamentals well and knows how to win. We might have had a 10 year re build, the longest in our history, but we did it the right way and we're again set up for another decade + of success. It's who we are.

Rays is a terrible comparison. The Devils have legendary NHL players. Including the best goalie ever and two of the best defensive men to ever play the game.
NY has played the same game from series start til now. Games 1 and 2 they faced a lesser goalie and capitalized on the PP. Nothing else is really different. NJ has since amped their game 3-4 notches and made the proper adjustments because they have a versatile group with speed. NY's skill players are easily pressured into making low percentage plays b/c they don't play well in traffic and that's where post-season games are won. Everyone knew this was a team built for the regular season that would be easily exposed come April.
It's almost like the devils are the better team

The Rangers should have passed on signing those godawful contracts with Panarin and Trouba.
Both are wayyyyyyyy overpaid and are DREADFULLY bad.
