In defense of wheeler, Winnipeg’s been relatively healthy all year. Those guys are probably spent. Combine that with vegas playing w the cap the way they do? I’m not surprised the jets didn’t put up much of a fight against vegas (playoff) roster. Also, he DEFINITELY has a point that Bowness could’ve said this behind closed doors.
But at the same time it shouldn’t take the coach to publicly call guys out like that. I’m a die hard Avs fan. 2 years ago when we were eliminated in the 2nd round by vegas Nathan mackinnon took the podium and made NO excuses. He literally said “I been here 8 years and I haven’t won SHIT.” Good leaders take that position by CHOICE. Not by force.
While my Islanders were also a first round exit at least they’re not a dumpster fire like Vancouver or Winnipeg.

Dude they barely made into the post season, I’m with Bowness on this one. The team never seems to be held accountable for their play and this has been going on for years!! Maurice left for a reason! These guys get paid millions of dollars to produce and they don’t! 🔥 Under their ass and should have to answer for their play. Fans are getting sick of the mediocrity this team has. Get rid of Chevy , Wheeler and Scheif.
"Not like they had a terrible season…" this narrative is wild. It was another mediocre season where the same shit that's happened for five years now happened again. In six seasons of THIS SAME CORE they have won one playoff round and is now getting slow, old, and worn out. Regardless of which side you are on…this 'team' needs change because it has simply gone stale; play, culture, even stale in the eyes of its fans.
This group is not going to win the Cup…and running it back, riding it out to the bitter end, will only kick the can further down the road ending in ever-increasing disaster. EVERY cap-structured pro-sports team goes through rebuilds and retools at some point. In the last two decades only four teams have gone on ten season playoff appearance streaks and all of have gone, or are now going, through major changes. Meaning the other 20+ teams have all done the same in those same two decades.
Also: Rick Bowness said similar things earlier in the season when the same shit effort was being shown on the ice. This was nothing new being said by Bowness. He just came out and said publicly what Winnipeg Jets fans have been watching happen for years. The team is stale!

has handling it "behind closed doors" worked with this particular group? ever? same thing goes for those player-led closed-door meetings whenever they really stink. a couple of times per season the last few years running. this group of players, Particularly wheeler and sheifele have ego's on them the size of the moon. what, the coach isn't allowed to criticize them publicly? they were like a half-assed ahl squad out there and literally everyone except those few ego-laden players agree. I think if Bowness is saying this, we can believe him. He's got the cred to back it up. Wheeler and Sheifele simply do not.
Wheeler has no right to be upset. He and Schieifele are the single biggest reason the team is dysfunctional. Schieifele and Wheeler bullied Laine openly, Chevy and Maurice encouraged and condoned the behaviour. Schieifele and Wheeler are a cancer in the lockeroom. That’s why Buff quit
I wouldn’t he surprised if Buff comes back of the Jets gets rid of the two cancers Wheeler and Schieifele. And while they are at it, get rid of that third cancer Dubois. Everywhere Dubois goes, he causes trouble with his selfish attitude

There are 2 options. Bowness doing what he did, being transparent, saying exactly what was on his mind, the fans see it exactly how it is OR Elliot Friedman's hearsay opinion. The NHL needs more of this and less hockey insiders that speculate .

Those sweaters with the navy stripe from the shoulder to the cuff are awfull. The players need cool uniforms if you want them to play better and be proud to be jets.
