Prospect Update: Moritz Seider On the Way to Being Top Line Defenseman

Its no secret the Detroit Red Wings are huge fans of Moritz Seider. He’s big, he’s smart, and the kid can flat out play hockey. Drafted in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Seider has solidified his place in the top ten rookie defensemen in the AHL.

Our playoff push prospect update finds Seider not only meeting, but exceeding expectations. Though Steve Yzerman has noted he still needs to grow, we think he’s come along very well in his first season as a pro. Naturally, we gushed. What do you think of Seider?

Do you think he’s ready for the big jump in 2020-21?

  1. Girls, you missed it! "It's sunny today, and the BRIGHT side of this is Moritz Seider" Doh! ☺

  2. Ich watched Moritz Seider in Mannheim, I watch him in the AHL and I hope I'll also watch him later this month having his 9 game stint with the Red Wings.

In my opinion there is absolutely no doubt that Mo will be a regular coming 2020-21 ! I already see him as the second best dmen in the organization (behind Filip Hronek). And I have doubts that Yzerman will be able to land a real star dman through free agency… could be tough to convince the big guys.

  3. Along with Larkin, Mantha, Bertuzzi, the red wings are going to have a great leadership group once guys like Seider, Rasmussen and Veleno make the jump to the NHL.

  4. Any plans to do something with the Winged Wheel Podcast when they come down to GR in late March?

  5. hope you get Tim Stützle as well, would be a nice addition.. greetings from overseas

  6. As a German I'm pretty excited about the development of German hockey lately. Draisaitl probably with the most points in a season since Jagr/Lemieux, Olympic silver medal, Kahun playing solid (30 points in 56 games) plus two German goalies in the NHL, Seider drafted high, Stützle, Peterka and Reichel most likely are great picks. Also there is Dominik Bokk who was drafted high. Things are looking really good right now.

  7. hi girls. I am happy to see that you have also become a fan of Moritz. We wrote a few months ago after the training camp and you were still skeptical. I could understand you, that was me at the beginning, but he convinced by performance that he did here and now with you over there and you will have a lot of fun with him. I said at the time that he could be a new Lidström and you were horrified but got all predisposition, only he has to work on himself and be promoted but the captain will get it in the way because I don't worry because he knows what he's doing similar to Lidstörm once, it can have a defender with a high hocky IQ who can also control a game. I hope next year in the NHL

  8. Thanks for your update! I'm a hockey fan from Germany and like following the progression of german prospects in North America.
    Cheers!

  9. The same people questioning the Seider pick are the same idiots screaming for a Blashill removal during a rebuild. They're just impatient instant gratification demanding, mostly clueless about hockey and team building, fans that give the real fans a bad rep.

  10. He might be ready for the big jump, and I'm sure he would contribute at par with their current talent, but do they want to pull him up when he is just getting ready, or when he's another level ready, and the team is coming together? I'm fairly certain they could make a first round this year if healthy with the moves they made, I'm just unsure if they put that together, or if they go one more year in the top 10 drafting spots. Under the impression with the trades, they are moving towards a 35+ win season potentially, so why not bring him up to start getting acquainted with the team and play.

  11. with both of your hockey knowledge you should try to get into the red wings media interviewer lineup, they need more women asking good questions, and helen st james has been the only one for decades now, her time is probably running out then there will be none.
