Montgomery Says Bruins “worried about making mistakes” in Playoffs | Bruins Interview

BOSTON, MA — Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery met with reporters when the team arrived at Jet Aviation FBO in Bedford, Mass. on Saturday afternoon following Boston’s Game 6 loss to the Florida Panthers.

Montgomery says the Bruins have not been playing in the moment and are worries about making mistakes.

“As an opportunity, that’s the word that comes to my mind is, you know, you’re playing the game seven at home,” Montgomery said. “We had the regular season we had that’s over and done with, but it got us this game seven to play in front of our great fans. And it’s an opportunity to go and seize the moment.”

  1. Chance to coach game 7 at home?!?)!? It’s the first round as the 1 seed!!!!!!!!! Maybe game 7 cup final but that comment was just unreal for him to say, and I like Monty a lot but that makes me nervous

  2. Swayman’s lost both of his starts against Florida this year. He’s not ready for this moment. Pray Ullmark and the D can get us into the second round and get back to switching the goalies out. Ullmark needs rest, but he cannot be out of the net for game 7.

  3. Idk why Montgomery is talking like a game 7 is a great opportunity. The bruins should not be in this position to begin with. We should not be in a position to be eliminated

  4. It's Montgomery who should be "worried" about making mistakes such as not pulling Ullmark; taking Frederic out of the lineup and leaving Clifton and Forbort in the lineup. Look in the mirror coach.

  5. How many goals will his team need to score to make up for horrible defensive and goaltending performance, plus video review? 8? 9?

  6. Surprised one of the interviewers didn't answer Montgomery when he said "Who would you put in for a goalie?" I would have immediately said "Swayman" If Montgomery asked why… "Because you haven't used him at all in this playoff series and the one you chose is screwing up big time." These interviewers are such cowards for not coming after the coach because, in the end, it's the coach who's blowing this first round of playoffs by not making the right decision of who to play.

  7. Okay, B’s!! The D can do it..be dialed into the reality Panthers come in waves..there’s no going quiet..anticipate the energy level is always going to be a part of this series.

  8. Play Swayman
Stop messing with the lines- play Frederick- Play Grizliek-
    Don’t mess the lines up

  9. One game away from possibly fizzling out in the first round after a record breaking season.

  10. Gotta at least give Swayman a chance to step up. Ullmark is not on his game, although the lousy defense in front of him should take the brunt of the blame.

  11. Play your game not theirs. You all led the league in scoring and in wins. You all want it to end now? They need to play with some desperation. Game 2 and 5 looked like a scrimmage instead of a playoff appearance.

  12. Ullmark is the best goalie period – but he’s clearly been carrying something and the D are playing like it, tight and as a result making silly mistakes hanging the guy out to dry.

Swayman should have come in earlier than game 7

  13. What, in my opinion, coach Montgomery should make as changes for the ultimate game 7:

    – Reintroduce Grzelcyk (remove "permanently" Clifton; insert this one in game 6 was a terrible mistake by Montgomery) and pairing him at McAvoy.

    – Bring back Frederic who played a great season and proved that his physical presence had a positive impact. Moreover, he demonstrated that he had good passing skills (and taking out Krejci, who seems to have reached the end of its abilities; in the games he played in this first round, his contribution was almost nil).

    – Opt for Swayman as the starting goalie (and possibly hand over Ullmark, if the situation requires it).

Game plan: to be as quick and dizzying as the first ten minutes of the second half of game 6…until Barkov's goal, which had the effect of a shower of icy water. No risky play. No cross passes (EAST-WEST) without making sure not to be intercepted. No blind back passes. No silly (ie, unnecessary, non-forced) penalties. In the third period: short presences (as much as possible). Shot, shot, shot and shot again.

Players who must invest all their talent and without moderation: Bergeron, Marchand, Pastrnak, Coyle, Bertuzzi, DeBrusk, McAvoy, Grzelcyk (?), Orlov, Lindholm, Swayman (?).

    GO BRUINS GO!

  14. As much as I Respect and Admire his poise demeanor. We shouldn’t be in this position and going to a Game 7 being up 3-1 absolutely shouldn’t be looked at as a “great opportunity”.

  15. This game will be a great test of his coaching ability. Clearly the mindset is there but hopefully the “I don’t knows” turn into the best made decision in the end!

  16. We play a bit better as we did this season, and it is over. Panther's have our number. Mark my words. IfWeUnfuckOurBusieness we will easily win Game 7. Linus needs to take a break.

  17. Ever since the Matthew Tkachuk vs Linus Ullmark fight it has gone down hill, you let this one guy get in your damm heads doubting yourselvs. Just goes to tell you folks you they are just as fragile as anyone, come on bruins you are better by far dont think about the what ifs all that doubting, just play hard and win.

  18. Way to stay composed coach! I agree with everything you said. Seriously. But you have to admit that switching up the lines in game five might’ve contributed to the “slow start” in game five. I love ya Monty but wth?! And we gotta stop turning over the puck, especially in front of our own net! I’ll give you a hint who does that a lot, his name starts with for and ends with bort!

  19. The Bruins mistake problem boils down to moving their legs. They do two strides then glide when chasing the puck. Yes it's enough to get them to the puck first, but with a skating panther right on top of them, and then they have to make a rushed decision. Get your legs moving, get to the puck with enough time to make a good decision rather than a rushed decision.

  20. Take out Clifton, limit turn overs in our own slot, and tell the goalie to stay in the net. If we just do that, we win.

  21. I hope that the Bruins win but history is not on their side. The Bruins lost Game 7 at home in 2004, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2019.

  22. That ‘Family first’ mentaly is Just one lost away from the biggest chokejob in the NHL history bruh…
    Just win
