Emergency Legislation Proposed to Protect New York Rangers Legacy Play by Play Broadcasts

(AP) New York State Representatives from East Midtown and Staten Island have filed a writ of Injunctive relief with the New York State Supreme Court to force the state legislature to change its rules regarding emergency legislation. If granted the Court will pave the way for AB1994 to proceed post haste to an immediate floor vote in the New York House of Representatives. The bipartisan bill seeks to force ESPN/ABC to bring aboard broadcasters Sam Rosen and Joe Micheletti as the play by play announcers for “any and all” broadcasts of future New York Rangers hockey games. The bill makes it a “public offense” for anyone other than Rosen and Micheletti to broadcast the play by play and “color” analysis of Ranger games during the playoffs.

An unnamed legislator stated late Saturday, “the ESPN / ABC experiment has proven to be a public menace. With the exception of commentary from Mark Messier, we find the whole operation to be a public nuisance and it just has to be stopped. PK Subban must be silenced.” Many New Yorkers found themselves syncing the muted ABC television broadcast with streamed audio from the radio, but delays from ABC’s feed made this a dangerous operation, making it very possible to see an event on the television seconds before it was properly described by Sam Rosen on the radio. Many underserved communities reported a delay between the television and the radio as kind as 2 minutes, making the process impossible.

Ranger fans are encouraged to contact their representatives to support AB1994 known as the “Integrity and Quality in Rangers Broadcasting” bill.

In case anyone didn’t know, next season is Sam’s 40th season (or maybe just 40th year?) as play by play for us, been going since 1984 (was an in studio guy from 82-84)

Gonna be fun reliving his old stuff next season

I’d be 1000 X more excited to run into Sam outside the Garden than any current Rangers player

I didn’t realize this was satire at first, because NYS is indeed that fucking silly this is within the realm of ppssibility.

This is awesome can’t stand the abc/espn/tbs/tnt broadcast. Also I guess they solved all the other issues in New York that they can move on to this type of stuff.

I can’t remember which game it was but the ESPN guys were literally talking about how lucky we are to get to listen to Sam and Joe each game but we’re stuck with them for the remainder of the playoffs. They know it, themselves. Nobody comes close and it’ll be a dark day when Sam and Joe hang up the microphone

Sam needs to give Joe his Toupee guys number

Anyone listen to the radio broadcast post game show last night? Don Lagreca who I think is great too, was wrapping up the postgame and talked about Toronto and the last time they won a series. Well Sam must’ve been sitting next to him still and asked Sam some trivia questions. Sam joined the broadcast and they chatted for 5 minutes but it was so unexpected and loved it! Sam is a gem and the best part of Rangers hockey!

National broadcasts are awful. And Emily, I love you but there is too much of you

I had the pleasure of getting into the same elevator as Joe at MSG before a game last season and he was a joy to talk to. Really down to earth guy and you could tell he was excited to call the game

Sam was doing the radio call last night! For sure listened to that while watching. It’s off but worth it
