TIL I had something in common with Alexei Kovalev when I was a child

This actually makes a lot of sense for all us old guys that remember how frustrating Kovalev was as a Ranger. One of the most talented players ever but he couldn’t put up a 10 game streak of good games for us.

Interesting. Never expected this. I always assumed he was simply bored due to his off ice activities like flying airplanes and playing the saxophone. Sort of like Kreider, whom is into literature and economics.
I’ve met Kovy a few times at hockey camps when I was a kid, he was always a serious guy. Have also played with him at a few private skates as an adult. He never likes speaking about hockey…talks about the weather or movies in the locker room as he puts his gear on. He especially loves talking about cycling and food/restaurants. Never assumed he was a gamer and this had such a hold on him. Makes sense though…

We’re all human, we all have some forms of addiction, even the most talented of us get bit by our vices. I wonder with all of this new technology if he’s playing anything these days during his retirement…

I’m hesitant to ask if I ever do see him again, may trigger something.

He would have most definitely lost his career if he were a modern day player. With how big and expansive games are these days he would’ve never seen the light of day lol.
