sidney crosby ISN'T. GOING. ANYWHERE. EVER. people will say gretzky was traded, i will say he was sold, because that deal was all pocklington and he wanted money. sidney crosby is the most important hockey player to his city since, well, the guy who owns his team. and mario is the one person on the planet who would understand best crosby's value to pittsburgh. not just to the penguins, but pittsburgh itself. to trade crosby, you not only need to convince 87 that it's a good idea, you need to convince 66 as well. crosby will spend his entire career with the penguins, just like lemieux did. crosby is the least likely player in the NHL to be traded. this includes guys like ovechkin and mcdavid.
what a crosby trade would do is result in riots and looting in pittsburgh, and several dead, with the GM's corpse hanging from a tree. the pens would never get their fans' goodwill back, and would relocate within 5 years. mario would disassociate himself from the team in disgust.
it's not even worth discussing what the possible return would be. crosby is the caliber of player you never ever trade unless you have no alternative. whoever started this asinine rumor is an idiot and an attention whore.
now, mete…i feel sorry for the kid. he's definitely an NHL caliber defenseman, but he's #7 on one of the league's premier 6 man units, and they've all been healthy. it's not so much that he wants to leave; it's that he wants to play. and if there's no room for him now, there'll be even less in the future, with norlinder, guhle, struble, brook, etc… i think a trade has to happen. there are teams looking for defense, so it won't be hard to find a taker, but what do you get in return?
one area we're weak is on faceoffs. danault may leave at season's end. i propose we try and find a 3C who can win faceoffs and maybe chip in a little offense here and there. the guy i really want is joel eriksson ek of the wild, but he'll cost too much. unless danault is traded then in that case that's who i want to target. so i'm thinking maybe someone like cody eakin of the sabres. send poehling with mete and that might be enough. luke glendening of the wings i'd also be happy with.
if you're worried a mete trade will leave us exposed in case of injury, fleury is a capable #7, ouellet and leskinen should do okay at 8 and 9, and if we're desperate, we can find someone on waivers. i wish mete well wherever he goes. he probably tops out as a #4, but that's okay. not everyone can be a superstar. he has a useful skill set.
If l were the Pens management l would opt for young roster players and prospects and DPs in return for Crosby, Malkin, Letang
stocking up for the future. Pens are in rebuild now and to win a cup with this group just won't happen. Would be insanely nice to have Crosby in MTL and should make the Habs a drastically better in the next 4 years.
Crosby for Danault and Mete? Could this happen
Pittsburgh days as a contender is over, they have traded most of the future and 1st rounders away in the past years. The well is dry. To contend again they have to trade Crosby or Malkin. You will get more for Crosby in a trade. In one trade Pitts can rebuild over night, If they dont it will take years to rebuild. Rutherford could see the future, and knows what has to happen. But Mario sees things different. Crosby sure would look good in a Habs uniform thou.

I see the connection, and yes if Crosby had to chose a trade destination, he would probably choose the Habs. But after that, this trade does not make a lot of sense. The habs have a lot of contracts coming up in the next 3 years that are going to cost them big. They are already up against the cap. Crosby makes 8.7 and has 4 more years left even after this season. In 2 years the Habs will be in cap hell without Crosby. I honestly think they will be better off without Crosby, as much as it would be cool. Also, if I am Pittsburgh any trade for Crosby would require Suzuki and a few prospects and or picks.
The deal will get done. Pat Brisson speaks French and can negotiate with MB. Mete seems like he is being hidden away in plain sight for the Kraken draft. Who knows lol
Crosby for Price. Mtl could also give up a winger.
i would LOVE! crosby in montreal, Danault, mete, poehling, a first round, a second round, maybe Caufield or Mcniven, Pittsburgh would hold some of Crosby's salary for 20-21 so we can fit under the cap, there would be incentives incase danault doesn't resign, we don't need Danault anymore if crosby is here, and suzuki and evan's would take up the slack on the pk and already have this season, danault is getting less and less important minutes and i believe it's because the habs forsee him leaving or getting traded, he's still the best faceoff man, but crosby is very good in that too. We really need to bring in a better faceoff coatch, hell bring in Yanic Perreault to instruct these young guys, KK's actually getting better and is actually leading the team this year 56% vs danault's 53.8%, I do see this being more of a deal during the off season, be hilarious to have part of the 2014 olympic team (Weber, Price, Crosby, Perry) lol
No it wouldnt happen, the cap just wouldnt work out, price and weber are the only guys that would make the cap work.
Not even remotely in the budget! Montreal ending up with Sid is like me wanting a Lamborghini when all I have to trade for it is a Lexus! Let’s try to win with what we have! GHG
Pitts is depleted in picks and prospect… if Crosby stays its to lose until retirement so for the team and the player it might be best to part ways… and can you think of a better way to end his legacy than winning the 25th with mtl… with price and weber… it would be the cherry on top of a legendary career… makes sense for everyone honestly

More likely in the offseason they have a greater chance of getting him..
The habs will obviously have to give up so much right now just to get him and most importantly they don't need him at all with the way things are going for the habs..

Easy e trade Thomas Tatar Jesperi Kotkaniemi and a Second round pick if have Crosby with the team we have now will have a really good chance win the cup and that’s the point and the NHL Crosby is better than the players I mentioned

Crosby trade __Montreal sends the Pens 1st round picks in 2021 2022 2023 2024 .Then in 2024 the Canadians send Crosby Suzuki Romanov to the Pens for 1st rounds 2025 and 2026 That way Montreal has a chance to win a cup the Pens can rebuild .Remember Price and Sid are the same age .Montreal cannot find a replacement for Price so the time is NOW
