Epic collapse or that’s just playoff hockey?
There’s a couple ways you can look at the Boston Bruins losing Game 7 to the Florida Panthers and bowing out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the first round after the best regular season in NHL history.
Ian McLaren is like head coach Jim Montgomery – disappointed and confused.
There’s some pretty obvious reasons where things went wrong, though, including bad lineup decisions, costly mistakes, goaltender regression, and quite simply playing afraid to lose and without a killer instinct.
Where does this rank among recent playoff losses? Pretty high, because it could be the end for Patrice Begeron and David Krejci, who fell way short of their intended happy ending.

The panthers really rattled this team they looked like scared lil babes out there. Completely shook. They looked like they were trying to not lose rather than trying to win
Because they played their best playoff hockey all year and they didn't have another gear. Montgomery said it himself, 'we just hit singles all game and wear down the other team'
That's cute in the regular season to never quit on a play but you're burnt out when other teams are looking to hit doubles.
I told you in January that the playoffs would be a nightmare for this team.
Panthers fans know how u feel… last year we were President's Trophy winners, best offense since 97 Penguins, etc etc… and we get swept by TB!!! Anyways, great series

Don't beat yourselves up too bad about an upset. I understand it because you had a 3-1 lead though. I would have been pissed too. Although the Panthers were a wild card, they were not really a wild card quality team. They were getting used to a new coach and system all year and it finally started to click at the end of the season. They wanted this more. They still have the same goal scoring talent from their President's Trophy run from last year and were back for vengeance. Boston was a good matchup for Florida and it was a fantastic series. Seeing Bergy's face after the game broke my heart. I hope he plays one more year with this roster. GO CATS!!!

Montys game of jumbling lines, not starting Swayman and not getting on the defenses ass lost is the series. As a coach if you want to be a champion you have to be able to pull your guys out a hole when they’re digging themselves down. Not that I want him gone or anything but he’s gotta be better and just keep it simple
They were soft too…if you go back and look at successful playoff runs you HAVE to be physical and hard on the puck.

Florida is a great team. Best record last season. Underachieved during the regular season.

I never understood why a team would even want a President's trophy. 99% of the time they lose in the playoffs. It's almost a given now. I do feel for Bruins fans though. The Pens have blown 3-1 leads multiple times in the playoffs. That being said, Marchand is a player who licks, spits, and does dirty tricks to other players all the time. Yet, Boston fans put him on a pedestal. WHY? He has NO sportsmanship. NONE. Except for the players on his team. He does what suits him. So don't put much stock in him hugging. He knows his career is almost over. Now, as the narcissist he is, he is looking at the Hall of Fame.
This is merely the latest big playoff upset. The defending champion Bruins of '70 – '71 were heavily favored to win the Cup again. They finished in first place, 24 points higher than 3rd place Montreal. But in the opening round of the '71 playoffs, Boston lost the last two games, surrendering a total of 12 goals (against G. Cheevers), losing game 7, at home!
cause the panthers are a fake 8 seed. Any team that wins the president's cup last year adds a superstar like tkachuk, isn't an 8 seed. That's how ridiculous the regular season is…that is one of the best teams in hockey disguised as an 8 seed
