Xhekaj OR Harris?

OK Guys, you can pick only 1! Arber Xhekaj or Jordan Harris? If Kent Hughes decides to clear up some room on the blueline this off-season, and packages up one of his young defensemen, out of these two, who would YOU ship off to another team?

  1. Xhekaj all the way. He produces offensively, he hits offensively hard. Keeps rats at bay. Nothing against Harris but I just don't see how he would be better than Xhekaj, except for his skating maybe.

  2. You keep the X-man, no question. Jordan Harris is awesome – he's going to be Montréal's version of Sam Girard in a couple years, I bet. Reliable, defensively-sound, and can fill any number of roles. I'd say he has a pretty good chance of equalling Girard in terms of style and point production.

But Xhekaj is a whole other ball game. I think there is a legitimate chance (40-50%) that he becomes a modern Dustin Byfuglien. He relies more on a deadly-accurate wrist-shot than the semi-accurate howitzer of a slapshot we got from Big Buff, but other than that, both players are massive, they can both skate well, lead a breakout, take a hit or a punch, and they strike fear into their opponents. The critical thing though is that now that he's announced himself to the league, he needs to pick his battles, and learn to deliver retribution on the scoresheet (and with big, legal body checks) as a preference over a fight. Fighting is necessary sometimes, but the best fighters know when to disengage and make 'em pay another way.

  3. Sadly i think Mailloux would be the one to go cuz of all the controversy, personally not one young defenceman should be touched, teams win championships with defence, all we need is a grade A goalie and were set for a decade

  4. Xhekaj was the habs 2nd worst defenseman last year besides kovacevic, there is a easy fix to the problem without trading either harris or X last year they ran harris and X on the same pairing for a bit, it wasn't a very good pairing but it could work until the trade deadline. if they trade edmundson and send kovacevic to laval, wideman as 7th d, let Matheson run up his numbers on the powerplay and trade him at the deadline, matheson is not very good defensively kind of a one trick pony but he will have good value if he can play at a 50 point pace till the deadline. once matheson is traded they can move harris to the 4ld spot and x can play bottom pair ld minutes. they would have to find a bottom pair right hand d unless they wanna let wideman or kovacevic play that spot. I feel like a lot of habs fans are blinded by the big hits and fights that X brings that they don't see that he probably wasn't a nhl caliber D this year, I know he will grow and improve but right now i feel harris is a step ahead defensively and offensively they aren't far apart.

  5. Harris is a better player offensively and defensively. He`s already a 2nd pair guy playing 18:39 average while Xhekaj is a 3rd pair playing 15:16. From a talent perspective, I keep Harris everyday.

But I am willing to hear out on the value Xhekaj brings with his toughness and fighting ability. I see him as a 7th D on a contender who you insert into the lineup when you know the game will get heavy or you want to send a message in a playoff series.

  6. I think just asking the question makes me wonder if you're a little light in the loafers! Of coarse you keep Xhekaj and dump Harris! Harris won't even make the team in 2 years when Hutson arrives. The sherif cannot be replaced! Matheson will have to be traded even by the time Hutson arrives!

  7. I'm glad everyone agree on keeping Xhekaj now.

Back during the pre-season i was arguing with everybody that he needed to stay and everyone kept talking to me about Harris.

I'm proud of my protégé he proved me right lol

  8. Arber has the ability to be a chara type presence someday for the Habs, I wouldn't trade the guy for anything

  9. 🎉 bye bye Jordan …
We need an enforcer that can do more the just fight as he has proven with his goals and assists…
He needs to be Coles shadow

  10. How is Xhekaj going to play after that injury he sustained? I don't think that's normal to just get hurt like that while in the middle of a fight, but that's just me. What if it happens again? Lord knows he's not going to stop fighting, so what if the same thing happens again?

  11. Xhekaj needs to stay! We already got rid of Romanov, I don’t wanna see Xhekaj go as well..

  12. 4 left handed defensemen, math, Guhle, xhekaj , Harris, and on the right 3 Savard, kova and baron and wideman as number 8th . No room for edmunson anymore . We used what ? 14 defensemen this year . Even a set defense plays with 5 regular guys 2 alternating and 1 that’s there in case of injuries ,more often than not , the two players watching from the stands are usually defensemen

  13. Xhekaj, no question.

Edit: I commented before even watching and assumed it was more about which one do we prefer, and not which one would we be more likely to move.

So to clear things up, I would be more likely to include Harris in a trade than Arby. I love both but I just prefer Arby's game than Harris.

  14. You keep WiFi no question… and if you Habs trade him bring him to Texas and the Stars. Dude is legit a badass

  15. I would trade all the old guys , Edmundson. Matheson, Wideman, Savard. They all kinda suck. You don't finish bottom 5 two years in a row and keep these guys over up and coming kids. Especially ones who strike the fear of god into opposing players. Wifi and Harris are keepers. The other guys you trade for a couple of lobster dinners and future considerations.

  16. This is like asking which of your kids you love more. I hate picking on over the other. But Xhekaj has an X factor. As for Jordan Harris, i think any team will be lucky to have him. Whe paired with a stay at home dman, he gets into the O zone and contributes.

  17. We keep wifi for sure like you said all day of the week and twice on Sunday I say lol Harris could go and get trade any day of the week We have lots of his style on roster We need the beast to stay

  18. With a glut of left shooting D, I can see either Harris or Barron dangled as part of a package either at the draft, or over the summer.

And while I agree that out of Harris or Xhekaj, I would keep Xhekaj, and as good as he was before he got injured, I wonder if a half season in Laval playing first pairing minutes wouldn't make him that much better. Next season would be the time to do it, with the team not expecting to make the playoffs, there is no harm in letting him refine his game in Laval for half a season.

  19. I very love Xhekaj, would love to keep him for the next couple years. The thing that worries me and that no one is talking is, his shoulder surgery. I feel like that injury could slow him down on the number of fights he will have during next season.. he might not be the same

  20. Harris is so overrated and soft. I don’t understand the love for him. He’s. 7th D man on an average team.

  21. 100% agree with you, I really like Harris, but there are other players like him. On the other hand, there are very few players like Xhekaj. He reminds me a little of Byfuglien, big, mean but with an little less offensive flair. Besides, with other defensemen comming up like Hudson, Mailloux and Barron, along Matheson, Savard, Guhle, and Edmundson, we'll have too many top 4 d-men and we have to trade some. I think that Xhekaj would be great on our 3rd pairing and the you give him minutes on the 2nd PP. But there's no rush to trade Harris, let's try to move Edmundson first and hope Hughes can get the best return possible. I think we can still have a rotation this year between those young defensemen and have Harris, Barron, and Xhekaj play a few games in Laval each. Unless we get a deal we can't refuse for either Harris or Barron…

  22. Ya gotta keep Xhekaj. You need the physicality and to be completely honest he's already made a name for himself and become a fan favorite. That's got to count for something.

  23. I love Xhekaj…. I am a tad bit concerned about him going into next year. I do not think fighting defines him and that part of his game needs to be curtailed.

I hope he is working hard in the off season on his areas of weakness and not satisfied with his success and popularity.

    Arby needs to stay…..

  24. Hutson will take harris’ spot in a couple of years as well, gotta keep xhekaj to have a diverse strong blue line

  25. Id say Harris all day, Xhekaj definitely helps this team play a more physical game and protect the young guys. Harris also has more conventional value, making him a better trade piece.

  26. Xhekaj has something that not every d man has. He's big, strong, isn't scared of anything. But the most important thing is that it seems like he makes everyone around him better. I guess the team feels more confident with him throwing punches around

  27. Xhekaj without hesitation !! You can find defensemen like Harris all over the league. Xhekaj is a rare breed.
