Dumb move and a waste. Carlson has one of the hardest shots in the NHL, you don't want to be blocking any of his shots. Besides, the shot was heading towards the goalie's left pad anyways, not the five hole.

I've blocked shots there. While obviously not from an NHL player, it still makes my foot go completely numb for a few seconds when it happens

Low, hard shot. Probably going 90+? I’m a goalie and shots to the toe of the leg pad right on top of the foot hurt sometimes. I can’t imagine not having anything protecting that area and taking a puck there. Oof.
