Lafferty is a right winger. The Leafs didn't need him. They need a left winger.
As someone who has routinely been very critical of Dubas, and I think rightfully so.
This deadline has been by far the best moves of his career.
ORielly and Aciarri
Followed by McCabe and Lafferty.
Just some very tidy business done in advance of actual deadline when some GMs lose their sense.
The interesting thing is that we now have an excess of players that have some value. I wonder if we'll make a move to try n shore up defense even more or fix goalie concerns.
That being said, I think he's already done great work, and I'm pleasantly surprised.
Kerfoot over paid you will need to pay to have someone take his contract
Homie says “this is there best chance of getting out of the first round” forget that Canadian division?lol
Engvall and kerfoot are now expendable
With 2 new players coming in another move is in the works .Dubas is doing it the proper way to have a solid team
I Really Think Kerfoot Is Out The Door, His Cap Is 3.5 mil But Actuall Salary is Only 700k, Someone Will Want Him.
I Also Wouldnt Be Sad Too See Sandin Go Either, Yes He Is Young And Talanted Offence Minded But Not His Defence Side Of The Puck, Plus He Gets Hurt Too Easily And Every Season Since He Has Been In The NHL,So There Is That, And Please Send Holl Out The Door.
Dubas is doing a much better job this deadline than the past few. I just wish he didn’t sign Murray to such a big contract. He worked a miracle to get out of the terrible Mrzark (sp?) deal only to make the same mistake. They’d have a lot more cap space right now.
On that note….if he gets hurt again, is it possible to put him on LT injury list?
Holl and a 5th for Schenn.
31 other teams would be glad to take Holl. Veteran RH dman on a great contract and career plus player.
Leafs winning the cup this year

This is a really great trade for Toronto. McCabe is signed for 2 more years at 2 million, which makes Holl's contract look like something Dubas can flip at the draft since he already has 7 defensemen signed for next year. Holl will want a lot more next year considering he's a RD with high minutes and good defensive numbers against top opponents, so this trade works for both the short-term and the long-term. It's also worth pointing out that McCabe is a +7 on a team where everyone is 0 to -28. He really stands out as the best defensive player they had.
I also don't think the prospects Dubas gave up were that important to the Leaf's plans over the next couple of years. Knies, Robertson, Abruzzese, Minton, Hildeby, Hirvonen, and Niemelä are all probably more important to Dubas at the end of the day and he still hasn't had to trade any of them.
Lafferty is good too, and he's also signed for another 1.1 million for next year. This really solves a lot of cap questions Dubas has for next year while adding more injury reserves for the playoffs right now.
The person that said Tampa got Fleeced, I don't think you can really count Tampa out. They won 2 cups and made the finals 3 years in a row with deals like that. You can only judge it based on what happens, and nothing has happened yet. If any team can resurrect Jeannot's game, it's Tampa. Guys like Nick Paul played so much better on Tampa compared to Ottawa that anything can happen here. There are some very smart people over there with good vision for players. It wouldn't surprise me at all that they had to outbid another team to get the player they thought they needed.
This is the 5th or 6th trade breakdown video on this trade I have watched, and by far the most comprehensive. Great job!
It’s curious watching the TOR trepidation about where Lafferty fits in. Think of Kampf (also played extensively in CHI), then make him right-handed, about 50% faster, and slightly more offensively capable, and there you have Sam Lafferty.
1 thing for sure I no the 4 a accusations co.ing in are not 1way players they bring toughness so we will not get pushed around this time like all times b4 that's factual plus they can play defensive offensive all a pure bonus 2nd round looking better today than 1 week ago
Leafs won this trade until we know what the picks are in a few years. It's always how it is in any trade where a CONTENDING TEAM*** does a trade like this. Example: Leafs won the Brain Leetch trade when it was done, ultimately won it in hindsight as well.
I use * because, for example, a shitty team like the Leafs team that traded for Kessel, that is an example where that trade is up in the air when first done. You knew what you were getting with Kessel and he was pretty much that. But that Leafs era wasn't ready to trade away those picks because we weren't auto playoffs. So we gambled and, imo, lost, with those picks turning in Seg and Ham (BIG oof on both those loses).
good trade for both teams… the leafs got some additional toughness and roster depth that will help them during the playoffs. the hawks were able to fetch what they were asking, a 1st for mccabe and a 2nd for lafferty. atm, the hawks will now have multiple 1st round picks in the next 3 consecutive drafts (after having 3 in last year's draft).
I've been critical of Dubas. But getting bigger..tougher with more grit is what this team needed. The talent is no issue. I would like to see Brendan Lemieux with the team. Younger guy ..big and nasty. Cheap contract and maybe another experienced tough defenceman.
