Need our stars to show up, but it’ll be a long series and I think we really just needed a bit extra rest. Everyone looked flat except the 4th line. Kinda brutal this started less than 48 hours after a 7 game series.

Bratt is absolutely invisible. It’s bad when our 4th line gave the most effort and had the best chances.
Hughes is great, but everyone studied the film. They know he is always fed the puck and does entry into the zone. That’s why he is smothered.
Better figure things out, Carolina isn’t sloppy like the Rangers.
Meier being out messed with our lines, I think once he is back in we play a lot better.

We need to have a plan to beat these guys…we played them in the regular season enough to have had a better plan. Adjustment better be there.
You can’t win anything in the playoffs with no powerplay. Jack took a step back and
we’re just not scoring enough goals. Jack was hitting even and making good playoff plays. This was a regular season level effort. Can’t always wait for a punch in the face…this is the playoffs. Settle in already.

The Canes are way better than the Rangers. We need to rally and take game 2, or we are toast, imo.

Obviously not their best effort. I have to say the 4th line was their best line tonight. I think Bratt was completely invisible tonight. I stopped counting how many times he got pushed off the puck. I know it won’t happen and it probably shouldn’t even happen but I would love for Bratt to take a seat for game 2 to see if that lights a fire under his ass.
Teams with all that rest usually are rusty when they resume play. Carolina was ready to go & very well coached. Shit happens. They’re not new to this and we are still on a learning curve, even though we already won a series.
Still issues with missed calls, but it is what it is. And Hughes needs to stop whining like Crosby before he gets that reputation. Ugh I sure hope he doesn’t !
We really need our regular season goal scoring leaders to step it up.
I’ll note that the 2nd and 3rd weren’t actually that bad, the 1st was just so abysmal we needed to play better than “not bad”. I’m not super worried honestly.

This is probably talked about after every game, but can we talk about the PP. am I taking crazy pills? Why do we continue to have Jack try to carry the puck into the zone and skate right into a crowd of people to turn it over. How many times do we have to watch it happen over and over again? I Am Not At All Panicked. Not At All
* We were clearly tired physically and mentally and emotionally and we weren’t ready for this series. It’d be one thing if we played our game and still lost with that score, but we didn’t, so once we get to our game, its on like Donkey Kong.
* Also, if this is the Canes game, credit where credit is due, but I still think our offense and our game stumps theirs. We were abysmal in the first period and they were only able to score two goals on us, so I’m not worried quite yet. I’m not trying to dump on the Canes game, but they looked beatable this entire game. I’m also not trying to be cocky.
* However, we do need our top men to step the fuck up. Dougie, Nico, Jack, Bratters, Mercer, and Timo (when he gets back). Love the secondary scoring, love the unlikely goals, but we also need the likely goals. We need a full team effort, and that includes our stars.
* I give up on this PP. And we’re one hundred percent not going to get any better at it against this Canes PK. There’s no way. Sorry.

* Honestly, I was expecting to lose tonight just because of all of the factors, Canes rested, us coming off such a massive high, zero rest, all of it.

Now you’re facing a goaltender who isn’t a Vezina Trophy man. Lets show the NHL and all of our doubters what a Devils offense can do.

Fam – it’s OK, we got this. How did the last 5-1 game opener work out for us over 7 games? Scratch this one up to figuring out the new enemy, and let’s adapt and overcome.
We have a young team, and these are big ticket games. We looked like deer in the headlights in the first period, but took it to them in the 2nd. Pushing to make things happen in the 3rd and we get blown out. I felt bad for Akira, as he really did not have much of a look-in there.
