Furious Gerard Gallant ‘can’t believe’ questions about his Rangers job status | New York Post Sports

Gerard Gallant was seething Wednesday about the fact his status as the Rangers’ head coach is in question after the team’s first-round elimination at the hands of the Devils.

“I’m coming in here [off of] what I think was two excellent years. We had one bad week and it cost us. If I can’t stand by my record and what I’ve done, I think there’s something wrong,” Gallant told reporters at the Rangers’ break-up day.

“Did I have a tough two weeks? Did we have a tough two weeks? Yeah. But besides that, I can’t believe I have to answer some of these questions about me getting let go or getting fired brought up by the media. Disappointing.”

  1. I think you need to look up the definition of the word "furious". 🙄

  2. The additions made at the deadline added more talent, the team HAS talent. They needed players with sand in their game role players. Anyone who knows hockey the playoffs are a different animal. It’s physical bottom line, they needed players with SAND.

  3. Gallant lose like that against the Devils and expect to keep his job. Exiting Round 1 in a cup or bust year, you're gone.

  4. Bob Whammer, you hit the nail on he head, old, old old Blackhawks fan here, they should of never taken Kane, needed more grinders, and defense,Gallant is the coach,he can’t score or put on the Pads!

  5. Lol it's the same team that made the conference finals last year PLUS Patrick Kane AND Tarasenko. But somehow couldn't even make the second round. And their seventh game performance yielded zero goals. Pretty pathetic. How could a coach no expect to be fired?

  6. Hardy his fault there's only so much a coach can do he moved lines around but he didn't get beat on the ice

  7. its funny to think the manager is responsible for a teams w/l. theyre only good as his players

  8. Mark Messier is the only man on Earth who can bring a championship to the Rangers…

  9. The Rangers need changes on the bench and not behind the bench. I like Panarin and have no complaints in the regular season with him. I do have concerns with his playoff stats. 11.8 mil per season I expect much more.

  10. He's a good coach back to back 100 point. Seasons I hope they bring him back next year the players are to blame for this loss not him

  11. We should have never let go of Ryan Reaves, he was our spark plug and we were loving it 👌

  12. This is such BS. Gallant has the best Win % of any Ranger Coach in history!! Spare me from the 'talking heads'!

  13. He should at least stay one more year. Two years and over 100 points and made the playoffs. Last year I feel was a little bit of overachieving, so expectations were high this year. If anything it’s the players fault fire them all

  14. Those who think Gallant should be fired also think Trouba is a great defenseman and worth the 8mil he is getting paid, Fox should have won the Norris this year, and Lafreniere isn't a bust,( just needs more minutes per game to do nothing). All of this is wrongful thinking by hype believers.

  15. Turk has 2 years of Pay left on his contract, if you want to pay for 2 coaches when 1 is getting you in the playoffs , well I guess you got lots of money.

  16. Ny is Toronto, Drury? Kane? Why even add to the Rag mix and disrupt chemistry? Gallant played the cards he was given and the entire team was confused trying to dish the puck to Tara and Kane. Igor is incredible and I’m a Devil fan.

  17. Gerard needs to explain why he had the team's best offensive player Pat Kane – as was proven at the end in two games where he finally had linemates he could play with, and dominated 5v5 – saddled w two guys he couldn't play with, for his entire time here and the first 5 games of the playoffs. And he played two elimination games w his best offensive player not on the top power play. That is inexcusable. Kane and Panarin didn't play together until the last period and a half of the year. When he was desperate, he finally used them together, and what a shock, Kane Panarin Trocheck line was generating tons of chances.

What he did to Kane w that absurd demotion the last two games told me all I need to know about Gallant both competency wise and characterwise. He did not understand his personnel at all. He blamed PK for Zib and Kreider being so bad 5v5 and for the power play stalling. Zib and Kreider held back 88, not the opposite. And the power play started failing bc they stopped setting up and letting Kane run it. And bc Mika Zibanejad just kept doing the same shot over and over.

  18. He's too soft on his players.. he's taken them as far as he can take them.. its time for a different voice in the room that demands accountability

  19. completely agree with him…this team is solid, they had a bad week and felt very disconnected.

  20. The thing is since he is coaching a New York team he should expect this talk personally id give him a single season but under a probation (do or die) but New York sports fans always are reactionary if it was up to us we would have a new coach every year we don’t win the Stanley cup,

  21. Gallant looked & sounded ticked off I think that GM. Chris Drury should consider pulling the trigger for another coach, but who's out there the logical answer is ex.ChiBlackHawk coach, but he has baggage.& need permission from the commissioner to return behind the beach? Let's Go Rangers🤘🏼!

  22. Joel Quenneville in here ASAP I don't give a crap about off ice issues. Half the coaches in the NHL are dirtbags anyway. Joel knows how to win!
