Snoop Dogg Speaks On Being A Potential Owner Of The Ottawa Senators + Mark Borowiecki Retires

We seem to have a bidding war between groups consisting of Ryan Reynolds vs Snoop Dogg to own the Ottawa Senators. Imagine telling yourself that two years ago.

Ross Levitan and Brandon Piller discuss the full-court public press attack being put on by Neko Sparks ahead of the final round of bidding set for May 15th and what Snoop Dogg discussed with Ian Mendes in Ian’s latest piece with The Athletic. Then, we talk David Bell being named full-time Head Coach with the Belleville Senators before a fun interview with Dani, the “anti-Leafs” fan you may have seen wearing her Panthers jersey alongside her dad at Game 1 between Florida and Toronto. Finally, we remember the career of Mark Borowiecki – including some fun trivia!!!

  1. I wonder if Snoop Dogg is part of the ownership it the plan would be to move the team to the USA.

  2. I think snoop's idea to get more american black kids and kids of color into hockey is fantastic. Hockey looks alot like me, and I'm happy for that to change. I'm just not sure what owning the Ottawa senators would do to help that initiative along, being that it's a Canadian market team, and this is an initiative for American kids. US has 25 teams, and there's a chance that other teams may want to sell depending on how the sens sale goes, so he may have an opportunity to get in on a team a little closer to home, and the team could be more involved in his initiative. All those reasons are why I would prefer Reynolds over snoop, as well as Reynolds commitment to the local community and the experience he brings in already owning a pro sports team

  3. Snoop isn't the role model type that Reynolds would be for the Sens or the NHL imo!

  4. I think Snoop needs Atlanta or Houston to execute his vision, and it is a worthy vision, but Ottawa might be a challenge given it needs more a local flavour than those massive cities that can cater to a greater audience.

  5. Why is going to Pride the bar set on a player’s character ? What about a players belief in God? Does he need to go to pride for any respect?

  6. Wow, I tell you after listening to Snoop again and him saying that his whole objective is to bring hockey to the African American community, though he wont say it, his real objective has to be to eventually move the team to a US city. He surely won't get his goal met here in Ottawa. Now I hope Reynolds really comes through.

  7. I love snoop, would be cool if he owned the team and I'm sure he would do a great job, but I think Reynolds group is a better fit for this city.

  8. Being an Ottawa-born-and-raised guy, I do think the length of this process is due in part to the fact that a new arena and having the NCC involved. The latter usually means delay, delay, delay. Also, perhaps there are considerations for how the muni-prov-feds will bankroll the new arena. If the new ownership group is putting in $1B, they are going to want to have a semi-firm commitment to at least 40-50% of the new arena cost being covered.

  9. Snoop is a G but don't like his vibe as an owner. Definitely agree with Ross's previous assessment that it seems like he wants to own A hockey team, not THE Ottawa Senators

  10. Well boys, cheers from Germany again.

Thanks a lot for the invitation to be on the show some time. For obvious reasons I'd be thrilled. Just name the day and I'm in.

On Reynolds vs. Snoop: My first thought was that I don't really care as long as they guarantee a downtown arena and provide the GM with some financial backing that we haven't been used to in the past. Just one thought about Reynolds though: I'm not sure how closely you've been following his involvement with Wrexham AFC in England. I'm just not too fond of the notion of the Sens being turned into the cast of a Disney+ series (or whatever platform). With Wrexham it was a little different I think. They love him there, but then again: It's Division 2 English football (which is actually the fourth division counting from the top). They were willing to accept the circus in town just to have a chance to return to any sort of relevance.

I would hope that the Sens, being an NHL on the rise anyway, don't feel the need to go down that road. On the other hand, it would surely create massive publicity for the club on a global scale. Just not sure if I want that. Thoughts?

  11. I don't get the impression that Snoop would be a majority owner, so I'm not sure how much sway he'd have in moving the team, as is being discussed in the comments.

  12. The more I see, the less I like the Snoop group as a fit in Ottawa. All that stuff in the article about his connections and love for Ottawa is BS, he'd say the same thing about whatever city he's dealing with. And him wearing a Karlsson jersey was because of Karlsson not because of Ottawa. I like that the article says they want to build a large and diverse hockey operations department to be competitive with other teams, but Snoop saying he'll be at games 6-10 times a year, vs Ryan Reynolds "frothy, rabies-infused fan the likes of which the NHL has never seen" doesn't even come close. Also Snoop's attitude of "I want Ottawa because Ottawa wants me" is not an Ottawa vibe imo.

  13. I got an Athletic subscription after Ian's last interview with you guys so I'm actually able to read the article this time haha

  14. Just came across this pod. Grew up living in Neilers hometown Flesherton so was raised loving the sens. And I just moved from Collingwood! Right beside Blue Mountain where Brandon is so thats pretty neat aha
