Is Cale Makar Receiving a Norris Nomination a Surprise? How Do We Watch Avalanche-less Hockey?

Cale Makar has been nominated for his 3rd straight Norris Trophy. Last year we all were pretty confident he had a good chance to take home the award, which he eventually did while beating out Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi.

This year might be a little more difficult to take home the hardware as San Jose Sharks d-man Erik Karlsson is the heavy favorite to win it. Makar even being nominated might be a little surprising to some due to him missing over 20 games this season. Extend those missed games out to a full year, and Makar’s offensive numbers are up there with the rest of the league. But even minus those 20 games, Makar’s numbers are still up there with the rest of the league.

We also take some time to discuss our hockey viewing habits when the Avalanche are not the team on our television. How does it change and is it a good thing?

  1. Most of the time, it should be players that are most valuable to the team, not the league to help their team to the playoffs,
    Player scoring team %
    Pastrnak 37.8%
    McDavid 47.1%
    MacKinnion 39 6%
    #86
    Kucherov
    44.5%
MacKinnon was bet out by Hall even though they were tied at 99pts because he helped his team in the playoff

  2. I just don't understand how most people, including the voters don't put any credence on actual defensive numbers and transitional play. It's always about the offense. Makar by FAR blows away Karlsson on the defensive side of the ice. Its just a shame. Makar and Fox are true 200 ft players.

  3. The fact that Mikko was still lighting it up when half the team was out and knowing that every team was trying to shut him down when he was alone. That’s deserving of a hart trophy

  4. I watch hockey and like to see real a story come to life, like underdogs story, personal achieve on a nobody l, a longshot being hockey hero or a Franchise winning first time. The upsets and disappointments on what this game can bring, like thr movie "on any given Sunday"

  5. Yes, it's a surprise, but it's also deserved.

Restricting it to three is a bit weird, though, since there are no Bruins, no Morrissey, no Heiskanen, etc.

  6. Avalanche should sell season tickets to their “away” games where they play much better.
P.S. they better redo their 2-4 lines!

  7. After watching us win the cup last year, now that we are out im just really enjoying watching hockey without the upset stomach out of sheer nervousness lol plus with Boston losing in hilariously satisfying fashion there isn't a team left in there that I feel like doesn't deserve to win the cup.
