The Leafs get their RHD as they sign T.J Brodie to a 4-year $20 million contract with is an AAV of $5 million! I personally really like the signing, what are your thoughts on our boys bringing in Brodie?

Hey man congrats on the Brodie signing as a flames fan I'm sad he chose to walk and Treliving was in contract talks the whole time driving up his price and I think he might of offered him the same kind of contract but he chose to go home. He's solid in moving the puck and transition and with his skating he's probably your fastest defenceman and he'll make a great partner for Rielly. He does have his hicups here and there with some turn overs and loosing puck battles in the corners but the good will out weigh the bad and take it from me when I say Brodie is more suited for the right side that's where he's been the most effective as a flame and has the potential to elevate Riellys game. Kinda cheesed that the trade fell through with the maple leafs last season but I'm happy he went to a team like the leafs rather than a rebuilding team. Side note: Go Raptors!

Risk and rewards is part of this business. I initially like the signing. This could possibly help our blue line. We shall see.
I’m worried about our cap. If we trade johnsson or Kerfoot we are essentially going to have to give them away which then makes me nervous that maybe Nylander could be on the market instead.
It would be nice to have Gudas as a depth piece who adds an element to the back end that the Leafs need. But in my opinion, Gudas is like Roman Polak, and TJ Brodie is an elite, top 4 defenseman.
Pietangelo was someone Leafs could probably have had by trading Nylander when he was holding out.

Flames fan here. Watch about 90%+ flames games. TJ is a good hockey player and great human being. TJ is a great skater. Guarded McDavid very well. He is good for 35-40 points. Last season he collapsed on the ice and took time get back to the ice and get back to top form. On top of that this past season he addressed previous season flaws. He was the best D during playoffs. He is fast and good passer. Responsible in his own zone. He is a join the rush player, marner is gonna love him. The team will look faster. This season he bailed out Gio many times. I’m seeing a 40+ points in a complete 82 games season (he has done it before). I wish him best.

Brodie @ 5m over Gudas @ 3.5m every single day of the week. This is actually a great value contract. Getting a guy who can play, very well, on your top pair costs money. 5M is not at all unreasonable. Also, Brodie is a much better defenseman today than Chris Tanev, and comes with none of the injury history concerns.
a leafs fan from calgary i got to say hes really good in his own zone with some offensive upside i like the deal having watched him all my life here. we got a great deal on this guy.
