Kane and Tarasenko likely leaving in free agency?? Big takeaways from the Rangers’ exit interviews!!

Though it was earlier than almost everyone envisioned, the New York Rangers conducted their exit interviews yesterday, and there was an expectedly more downtrodden tone than last year. Patrick Kane and Vladimir Tarasenko both speak highly of the Rangers, but what are the chances that either will return? Artemi Panarin laments his rough playoff showing. Why Tyler Motte probably has the best chance of being re-signed by the Rangers among the other unrestricted free agents. Plus, interesting comments from Alexis Lafreniere, K’Andre Miller and Niko Mikkola. Episode 821.

  1. Kane and Tarasenko were never going to be here next year even if they wanted to be here and the team wanted them to be here.
This team needs more blue collar grinders that follow a system and a lot less pretty passing allstars!

  2. Last season motte was all about his business and his demeanor showed it, but this season his first game back was all smiles. It looked like he melded w the group well. He’s a good ranger, i hope drury is able to get a contract done this time around.

  3. I second Jon's point about support – we should support the team until it is clear as day that this core can't get it done (e.g. don't boo the team on opening day, for god's sake) I would say at a minimum, give it one more year. Players + coaches are human, they need our support more than our vitriol. And who knows, if the fanbase backs up the team when they are down, maybe that gives them a boost, I mean collectively. Even with the FA's moving on. This team has a lot of potential still. LFG rangers! – yup still feels waaay to soon to say that 😛 but I did anyways (smh)

  4. If they don’t trade panarin before the season starts I will not be supporting this team until he’s gone period end of story I don’t want to hear any excuses

  5. I wish that we had gotten Kane and Tarasenko both in 2021, instead of waiting until this year. Then, we would’ve swept last year’s 2nd round series and we would’ve used that lengthy layoff to beat Tampa Bay in 7 games and we would’ve pushed Colorado to game 7 in the Final, even though Colorado would’ve still ultimately won. As a result, we would’ve entered this year with not only high expectations, but also with all of the momentum, which we would’ve used to win the division and we would’ve swept the Islanders in the opening round and we would be playing the Devils right now. That being said, I would keep Kane and Tarasenko around for at least 1 more year and see if they can gel together in a full season and if it doesn’t work out next year, then we’ll let them go. I would ship off Motte and trade Goodrow and Miller. No disrespect to them, but it’s time to move on. I would also sign Dach, DeBrincat and Dubois. Those 3 are young blood and Kane’s and Panarin’s former teammates in Chicago. I would fire Gallant, if it means hiring Quenneville.

  6. When the ship you're on is sinking, and you have a chance to get off, you get off. Tarasenko and Kane are gone.

  7. I think that Kane is Wishing & Being Realistic, at the Same Time it seems. He said, They, as you said, as if He wasn't A Part, on the one hand. On the other hand, as you also have mentioned, He did say that He Would Love To Come Back. I think that, The Rangers need to Resign Both. I think that We'd Gotten Lesser Versions Of The 2 of Them. I think that with A Couple Of New Assistants By His Side, Gerard Gallant Can Take Them To The Stanley Cup

  8. I'm thinking, after seeing The Kid Line, and, seeing that They Need At Least 1 More Year, Before Moving Them Up Or Out, The Rangers Signing Of Tarasenko Is Nearly Required, and, Not An Option (Goodrow And Others Moving On For Cap Space). Let me know what you think

  9. Too bad Kane probably won’t be back. I think he has plenty left in the tank. Playing hurt since he came over, but you saw flashes when he saw opportunities to push harder on the bad hip. He was, IMO, picking his spots and not pushing too hard when the play wasn’t there. Panarin, a small forward, needs support to be effective. When his teammates are moving their feet and giving him options, he is extremely dangerous. He CANNOT do it all by himself; and to his detriment, he tries. He needs to be on a line with a power forward along with Mika.
    Laff? Disappointing.
    Kakko? He’s no Jack Hughes…
Mikola should be gone—we have Ben Harpur locked up for next season, and he’s a very solid number 6. I was pissed when he pushed out for Mikola. I think he’s a better fit for Schneider in that he allows him to focus a bit more on his offense (I think Schneider is a future star player. Hopefully, the Rangers are patient and they don’t get any bright ideas and trade him).
If they can find a way to make the cap hit work, I think they have to sign Tarasenko. If that means moving Goodrow, Laff, Kakko, a prospect, or any combination thereof, then so be it. The Rangers don’t have ANY snipers, which is always a big problem for them. He’s a pure shooter. In fact, they should be looking for at least one more. I don’t think this team, as it’s currently constituted, is built to win in the playoffs. Too many playmakers, not enough grinders, and certainly not enough shooters/shooting.
Kakko’s a nice player, but he can’t hit the side of a barn. Same goes for Laff. The odd men out for me are: Kakko, Laff, Goodrow, I would even consider trading Trouba for the right deal.
Untouchables: Lindgren (under no circumstances!), Fox, Panarin, Tarasenko, Chytil, Mika, Schneider, Miller (he deserves at least another year), Vesey, Motte.
The rest not mentioned can be used in trades for salary cap dumps or upgrades.
    My two cents.
I’m a 50 plus years Rangers fan, ex season ticket holder for many years, and played the game for many, many years.
    That’s my two cents.
P.S. I love your show and agree with you most of the time 👍

  10. Trocheck
Was expected to be a big player especially to be a big player for
Us in the playoffs and a big 0…. Bs man he got a nice check and dude didnt so
    Shit. Along w others

  11. Agree 100 %ur take on Kane as far as his interactions w the team. I got the same vibe

  12. When kane said that at 6:25 he was talking about all the post game interviews. Theres too damn many of them. Let the guys relax for a few games before the press berates them again with the same questions ALL season.

  13. Kane & VT will sign elsewhere, stop dedicating lots of time to them. Mikkola could be a key guy to re-sign if NYR trade Miller (and one or two others), which they should to get the ball rolling towards a necessary roster restructure. Primary needs are RW's and 3rd or 4th line grinders that skate with edge and urgency every game.

  14. Feeling young, doesn't mean you are young. I think Kane is struggling with the fact he's no longer relevant in this league, that his career is more or less over. Some GM might offer him a small contract, but that's it. He had his moment in the sun, hopefully he's invested his money well.
