Mike Snively is/was my cousin. He made everyone proud after winning 1966 Winternationals, then the U.S. Nationals. He committed suicide in '74. A shock to everyone. Drove for Leong, in the Hawaiian.
I saw this on Wide World of Sports. This was a bigger deal than people realise. The clutch and tire manufacturers figured out how to get the increasing power to the ground.
Snively was a staple of Top Fuel in the 60s and early 70s. According to the Tom Madigan book, Fuel and Guts, Snively had a list of his career accomplishments in his pocket when he was found after committing suicide. A huge loss for the sport.

And Don Moody won the next round (and race) with a 5.91. Moody was one round away from being the first into the fives. Those were the days!!

I had press passes for the Ontario race and was on the roof with the ABC camera man. I still have that press pass.
I thought it was Tommy Ivo who produced the first 5second run.
