Sometimes, you gotta be careful what you wish for.. After the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in round 1 of these playoffs, ending an era of memes in the process, Leafs fans were obviously elated and in the streets of Toronto, they chanted “WE WANT FLORIDA”. The narrative was that Leafs fans wanted the lesser opponent in the Panthers. And they got them! After the Panthers defeated the Bruins in 7, it was now onto the 17th placed Panthers. But after dropping the first 2 games at home in Toronto, things weren’t going as planned. Heading south to Florida in todays game 3 matchup, it only go worse when starting goalie Ilya Samsonov left the game after Luke Schenn slid into his own goalie injuring him. A tough spot to be and while Woll came in and did well, the Leafs just didn’t look great in this game so it all comes full circle to the “We Want Florida” chants… would Boston have been the better matchup? The stars haven’t shown up. That’s it. Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Nylander are no shows in the playoffs. These were all one goal games and if each of those four score 1 goal it could be 3-0 Toronto right now. The panthers aren’t good, I don’t care what anyone says, they just aren’t. People are framing this “we want Florida” thing as if Florida is proving something and playing great, but that just isn’t the case. You could put the 2023 black hawks as the opponent for Toronto and the result would be the same. Florida might make it past the leafs, but that’s just a buy for either New Jersey or Carolina.
Can you imagine if the leafs finally win a round and then don't even get a single win in round 2? The absolute scenes.

so many leaf fans pointed at beating tampa as this huge turning point, bolts have played so much extra hockey the core is pretty much plus or minus a couple 30 years old and had 3 people leave with injuries in game 1. Panthers are healthy, bob is dialed in and the panthers learned after getting swept last year, the leafs have learned nothing they still play finesse hockey and that wont get you to the final.
With all the respect in the world, but I don't think many of you understand how popular the Panthers are in South Florida. They are very popular and South Floridians love their Panthers. They have great support.

Well said and the hardest thing seeing if the leafs lose this series to Florida it will be sad to see. Especially considering this is the 30 th anniversary of that incredible leaf team starring Doug Gilmour was the best team since they last won the cup. I would even put that 93 leaf team against this year team and I bet 93 leaf would win a best of 7 game series against this year leaf team.
