  1. I wanted Gallant to stay, I think he earned another year, minimum. However, having said that, if the team wasn't responding to him any further, (that's IF), then you have to part ways. That was a dreadful playoff performance, but I don't think it was all the fault of Gallant. The players have to play. Unfortunately, right or wrong, the coach will answer for it. No ill will towards Gallant, best of luck in the future. Now let's get someone in here that can push us forward. 30 years is far too damn long.

  2. I feel bad for Gallant …. I feel like he was a good coach . I feel like he did okay as Head Coach. But got The Hook for bad performance from the Players.

  3. Big mistake. Unless Drury is going to bring in someone to develop the kids, the team most likely take a step backwards.

  4. I get your point 100% but gallant doesn't have any structure to implement or strategies they were just all going for a free skate every game relying on their creativity to score goals til it didn't work. He made no adjustments because he didn't know any to make. He didn't even provide any motivation at all: not once. Fuck him. I use to love him

  5. The exit interviews seem to have been the key to this decision. If the coach loses the confidence of the team, there's no choice to but to let him go.

  6. We can not have stability and winning culture as long as Dolan is the owner.

  7. As of today, I think the best candidate of NHL experienced coaches is Laviolette. I like the idea of Messier, but I don't know if I want to risk the Rangers/Messier relationship, in case things were to not work out. Mess is a Rangers god, and I DO think he could potentially be a great coach, but it's a risk I don't want to take. (ala JD). Messier is just too special.

Anyway, even though he reminds me of the Isles, I think Laviolette could be a good fit. Key word, could. He knows the Rangers well, knows NY, he's got passion, he knows his shit, so right now I think he's one of the top choices available.
    LFGR.

  8. I think exit interviews are done in private with the GM I think. They don’t mean the ones with the media.

  9. When Gallant got in front of the beat reporters and said in his presser after game 4 that he wasn’t going into the locker room and give a big speech was kind of saying he refused to do his job. He deserved to be fired for that alone.

  10. The coach in Hartford should be hired. His bio is very impressive. Gallant was a plenty good coach imo and the Rangers will not do better with a retread from the NHL Coaches Merry Go Round.

  11. You have to look at the “quality” of the wins and losses rather than just the number. Even with a winning season, the Rangers were very inconsistent. If the Rangers left it all on the line and simply lost to a better Devils team, it would have been a much easier pill to swallow and Gallant would prob be back. Rangers need a leader and they clearly don’t have any player in the Locker room taking on that leader roll to get the guys fired up. They need structure and motivation and Gallant was just too lackadaisical in his coaching approach.

  12. Up 2 to nothing in both the last two series. You had to do something this team is flawed. On top of that this coach can not adjust in games and that kills you in the playoffs.

  13. Can’t listen to the exit interviews after a pathetic playoff loss. Gallant lost his shit in the locker room because for 3 games they didn’t show up and played with 0 heart. So obviously they will be looking to pass blame…. Players are the problems

  14. Game 7 was the deciding factor as well as his post- game comments. Like to see Claude Julien get another chance and a second choice Peter Laviolette . The first trade needs to be Miller , a terrible playoff performance.

  15. No matter how many points a team gets in the season, a first round exit for a team with the talent of this NY Rangers team is a failure. Gallant's press conference exposed the fact that Gallant did not accept this fact and if the coach does not accept it then he cannot coach successfully in th NHL.

We need a coach who can work with the players and get the best out of them, not simply leave it to a leadership core.

I want Mark Messier behind the bench. He is the best at motivating team players ever in the NHL. Six championships proves it… Plus, New York would LOVE to have Mess here with this team…

  16. I’d say there is some grey area with gallants record. You didn’t used to get points for getting to OT. Take all our OT points away and his winning record was pretty average.

  17. If the next coach cant fill the shoes of back to back 100 point seasons and playoffs, then it would be a huge mistake. If the new coach can't do it, Drury needs to be gone.
