[Basu] “I think Michkov is certainly a special case, and we’ll do our homework.” – Kent Hughes. Said it’s not only about him being Russian and being under contract until 2026, but also digging in to what kind of player he is.

If he’s available and we reach for a player that’s in the 7-12 range I hope the love for him as a GM will start to vanish

  2. uziyngbloodprada

I honestly hope Michkov gets drafted before our pick because if he’s available and we don’t pick him we will regret it for the next 15 years

  3. Habsfan_1984

I don’t think they will be happy with his defensive mindset/effort but will definitely have to take a good long look at the offensive skill. Think it could come down to how well he interviews and what they think of him as a person.

  4. hudaddi

I’m not convinced Michkov is as special as people say.

God, please don’t reach for a guy who projects to be just “pretty good”. How often do you get a chance to land a talent like Michkov? Sure, it has risks, but I’ll take a risk on an elite player over a sure bet on a middle six guy any day of the week.

  6. So what is the Sharks GM saying about this?

  7. Emer1929

I think Smith is Kent’s guy and will only take Michkov if Smith is off the board.

  8. Not_drunk_cactus

Whatever happen I trust Kent judgment.

2026 seems far but its nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Suz will be 26, Cole 25, Slaf 22, Ghule 24

The team is so freaking young waiting 3 years for a potential Ovechkin is nothing.

Kent just need to figure out if Mitchkov would be able to leave the country.

Calling it now: Hughes drafts Dvorksy at #5 and Michkov goes to Washington. I like Dvorsky but if its between him and Michkov theres no debate and Im ready to be disappointed.

  10. bosomarly

If you told me 1-2 years ago that we’d have a chance to draft Michkov I wouldve been over the moon, all this for Hughes to pass on him. Lets hope Bobrov can be persuasive enough.

  11. Longshanks123

Pretty solid chance he’s available at 5 and I think they would do it

  12. OverallVillage7

I’m still wrapping my head around him not going 2oa. If he played in the OHL it would be Taylor vs Tyler all over again.

  13. letsdo30

Come on hugo don’t fuck this one up PLEASE.
Let’s take michkov if he’s available or carlsson or the fresh prince. No need to pull a bergy and go off the boards

  14. sex_panther_by_odeon

Michkov is under contract till 2026. But Smith is also in college so he won’t be there till 2025 either. I think Habs get whomever falls to us.

  15. Not_drunk_cactus

    – Draft Mitchkov

-Get Markov as a special coach just for him

    -????

    -Win stanley cup

I honestly think Michkov joining in 25-26(?) is awesome for us. This gives us 2 more years of not making the playoffs + fighting for the playoffs, which means better prospects and by the time Michkov joins our core would be 26 and under. That’s perfect timing.

  17. simonlegosu

Michkov will be 21 when his contract finishes. It would be madness not to draft him.

  18. bloblob37

I can easily see a scenario where Slaf doesn’t pan out and Michkov decides not to join the Habs, which would be the most legendary back to back draft fuck ups of all time.

  19. Stealthy_Shuck

5th overall could be a blessing if he’s still available. I still feel like he’ll go 2nd/3rd. You don’t pass on a generational talent because of a few years of development.

  20. BackgroundMiserable5

    I saw him listed at 5′ 10, 148 lbs.

    That sound right?

  21. AleroRatking

    I don’t get why he doesn’t go 2. At worst 3.

  22. KantanaBrigantei

All I want is the most exciting player to watch play hockey. Give me offence.

  23. JacquesEvans

IF he’s available for us… maybe Hughes can use his negotiating experience and experience with contract stuff, to convince the Russian team to let us have him earlier?

  24. slowflo123

Remember how everyone wondered how tarasenko dropped to 17th in his draft? This feels like that but worse.

  25. HabsWeedEtPoutine

Do u guys really think Sharks will pass on Michkov ?

  26. Drafting the 2nd best player of the draft at #5 would be a blessing

  27. Iron_Deer_QC

Let’s just hope Nick Bobrov likes him

  28. febreezecan

So what exactly happened to Michkov’s draft stock? I seem to remember about a year or so ago, he was the consensus 2nd overall pick and now he’s become more of a consensus top 5 pick.

  29. ukrainianhab

Funny takes from those not familiar with the situation.

Let me explain it easily without paragraphs. He is more likely to be sent to my backyard (literally lol) and even if he isn’t I doubt he comes over.

3 years… SKA ties (Sporting Club Army) yeah doubt he sees the NHL, sorry you may think it’s over the top but it might be closer to the truth than you think.
