Loving the coverage today Steve definitely think this is a good pick up for the Oilers
Great trade for the Oilers. Hopefully losing Barrie doesn't hurt the PP much but the boost defensively should make up for it. Barrie has been better defensively the last couple of years in EDM than he was in TOR. Still not great defensively but not as bad as people seem to think although he has been playing down the lineup at even strength. Schaefer could be a great piece for NSH going forward. He's big, tough, mean and plays with an edge. Not sure if he'll be able to score at the NHL level but there's room for a guy like that in the bottom 6 of any team.
Had to watch this twice because it took my brain took that long to process Steve not in a Leafs jersey.

Love that the oilers downgrade their team by doing a lateral move defensively š Barrie has 43 points to ekholms 18. Only way this trade couldāve been good is if not trading away roster pieces like that

Sad to see Barrie go but excited to see what the new guy will bring. It was a high price to pay but the Oilers need some big time help on there blue line.
Barrie will run PP2 for the preds, they have Josi for PP1 and he's not getting moved off that unit

Also the Preds committed to a rebuild less than a week ago and already have an absolutely insane amount picks from just 3 trades. That is good stuff from Poile/Trotz.
Honestly aside from the past 2 weeks, Barrie's offensive production isn't all that great, considering who he's playing with… Don't be surprised if you see a huge jump in Ekholms numbers now too. Just from moving the puck he's going to be getting assists left and right. All Barrie did was shoot, and poorly for the most part. Mcdavids numbers will probably go up too because he'll be more confident in the defense.
I don't think Ekholm was around in the "1920" season.

Great trade for both sides. As a preds fan, I'm sad to see Ekholm go but I'm happy that he's going to a team that can make a serious cup run. He deserves one!

I love Ekholm and am not looking forward to seeing him on the other side in the battle of alberta (which will most likely be regular season next year.. pretty sure the Flames arent making the playoffs this year)
The Oilers D is getting big and mobile…Desharnais is 6.6, Nemo is 6.4, Nurse 6.4, Ceci 6.2…Kulak is only 6.1, Bouchard 6.3, Broberg is 6.3 now Ekholm, 6.4…I think the oilers grab a tough depth forward on deadline day…

What a absolute oilers fan boy analysis….the oilers complained about not having a right shot offensive defenseman for multiple seasons and they get barrie..yes his defensive numbers are lacking..that is what they needed so they said….than now they get basically a adam Larsson back and lose the right handed offensive defenseman and this is the golden answer? The cup winners, plan the parade for a mid tier, dman ehkholm? 7 to 5 tonight loss to Winnipeg boy? Goaltending is the issue…and their shitty defense (besides the new hero ekholm), if mcdavid and draisatl don't get at least 6 pts a game they don't win…one ekholm mid tier dman ain't gonna make a parade….It is sad to see these fanboy blogs think that this is the resurrection of christ….Get with reality….

Ekholm has turned out to be a much better skater, puck mover and even offensive contributor than expected based on zero knowledge about him other than he was a big defensive defenceman. This guy was the absolute perfect fit for what the oilers needed and so happy we got him over some of the other "elite" dman that were on the market.
