@Colorado Avalanche

You seriously hate to see this

During the 2020 bubble playoffs, in game 6 of that series against Dallas, Landeskog suffered a freak accidental injury when Cale Makar’s skate cut him in the right quad. At that time, it didn’t look that serious, at least I would never have predicted the problems this would cause but it was likely the start of what has been a long road to recovery.

He had to get surgery as a result of that cut on his quad and then, roughly a year later in March of 2022, he underwent surgery again, this time on his right knee and missed much of that season playing in a career low 51 games. But, he was back in time for the playoffs for what was an incredible run for the Avs who would win the Stanley Cup led by their captain, Landeskog.

After celebrating the championship last off season, to start training for the current year, he had nagging issues and eventually had to undergo another minor surgery in October that led to Colorado captain missing the entire 2022 2023 season. To make it worse, just weeks ago, as the playoffs were set to begin, it was announced that he would also be out for the playoffs as well.

That in itself was terrible news to hear but again the assumption, at least for me, was that rehab was just taking longer than expected and that he’d be back stronger and ready to go for next season.

Well, today we got another update and it was not good. It has been announced that for the 2nd consecutive year, Landeskog will not be playing as he will miss the entire 2023-24 season and you just absolutely hate to see this.

He is set to undergo another surgery, tomorrow. It is a Cartilage transplant to work on and repair the cartilage in his right knee. This is the same surgery Lonzo Ball recently underwent and in the hockey world, the same surgery Marc Methot got from the same doctor that will be doing Landeskogs. I cover it all in todays NHL video.

  1. The swedes in NHL doesn't give up. Landeskog will be back soon better than ever.

  2. I mean. Would i take an 80% Landy? Sure. I'd rather have a 100% Landy. But at least he got his cup before all this happened

  3. sad news. at least if his career is over he'll have lifted the cup in his last game, what a finish!

  4. Avs have a debacle on there hands for the offseason.

I mean they are literally at 14 million in cap with 24 free agents.

Then you have nuke situation of the hotel room.

Then you have landeskog health you gotta worry about.

I think bednar was right tho when asked about landy coming back. Who knows if he’s gonna be the same player. The leadership in the room is def gonna be missed.

I would love to have landeskog back but can he return back to elite status.

Let’s say both nuke and landy are gone. The avs then literally have one line. And have to find a whole second line.

It’s gonna be interesting how they navigate this offseason

  5. Avs fan

    2nd best captain we've had

I'm gonna be gutted if he's done

But if he is. At least he went out a fucking legend for this club. His last shift is one of the greatest last shifts in hockey.

Blocking a shot in the final seconds of the game that won us the cup.

    O'Captain my captain

  6. Well, there are many worst ways to go, like not having a contract in place that gives you and your family millions of dollars for the next several years or not having won the Stanley Cup. He at least got to play until 30 too, which isn't too bad. It sucks for sure, but there are at least many positive points to consider.

  7. I’m not an avs fan but I love every player in the league and it always sucks to see something like else happen especially to a team’s captain. Hoping and praying that all will be good for him so he can continue to play.

  8. Even if he is in that 70% at the age he is at with a 2 year recovery his return chances are slim to none this is coming from a col fan

  9. As a long time AVS fan and watched them since I was a kid I hate for this to happen to such a skilled player, with that being said. I think it's time for him to focus on his health and family and retire a champ and not a washed up player. Hockey is a very violent brutal sport and having /needing this kind of surgery doesn't make it easier competing, especially for a championship team like the Colorado Avalanche. He should retire and give his spot to a player that still can compete on high level and no drag his team down waiting and hoping he'll even bee half of the skill level he once was.

  10. Not having our Captain has been a huge loss, one that most people won't really understand. Landy has been the lifeblood of this team mentally for years, and on top of that he's one of the best wingers in the league, and adds a level of physicality to our team that we sorely miss. I truly hope this surgery will bring him the resolution he is looking for so he can have a good quality of life and come back to play for the team he loves.

  11. I'm a huge leafs fan but more importantly I'm a hockey fan. Never like to see this for any player(except Brad Marchand) jk even him I wouldn't wish this on. Hope he heals well and has at least one more good year just not against the leafs.

  12. If this is how it all ends, I'm glad that Landy at least got to lift the Cup. I will never forget what you've done for this team and I hope the surgery goes well! Love you Captain Gabe❤💙

  13. the avs are my second team and i missed having him on the ice all year. obviously i don’t want to see him retire, especially so young, but at the end of the day his health and quality of life are more important than anything. i hope he’s able to make a full recovery and i’d love to see him back with the team in the near future.

  14. Man. Brutal for Landy.
Man is an absolute legend and a Colorado HoF’er who will get his number retired in the rafters and will be involved in the Leadership, be it in a suit or in a sweater, for as long as he so desires.
If this was the last we’ve seen of him on the ice, hope he can recover enough to skate with his kids and not hurt everyday the rest of his life.

  15. I had an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon yesterday, so I had to ask. He was not optimistic. Fifty-fifty, at best, on getting back to the NHL.

If dedication alone could make the difference, we would see Landy back in 2024-25.

No matter what happens re hockey, I hope he’s able to have a pain-free, active, and long life going forward.
