Chris MacFarland Speaks on Landeskog, Other Injuries & the Val Nichushkin Situation (Kind of)

Following Colorado Avalanche Captain Gabriel Landeskog’s press conference on his pending knee surgery that will keep him out of next season, GM Chris MacFarland took questions from the press where he answered several questions on a variety of topics.

MacFarland obviously discussed Landeskog and his importance to the franchise. But also talked about other injured Avs since the season ended for the team.

He was also asked several times about the Val Nichushkin situation, and as the Avs have done so far since the incident, declined to comment. But did phrase one of his answers in a rather interesting way.

Finally, we get to our next season grade in Andrew Cogliano.

  1. I new it, Val Nuke is a martian undercover alien undercover russian undercover troll from another dimension of the 4th kind, I'm mean it's pretty obvious fellas

  2. Shaggy my friend. Frist off, the "C" is Landy's until he retires. Second, MacK has said on numerous occasions that he does not want to be a captain.

The info that is actually out there about the Val situation is extremely vague at best. Please don't jump to conclusions regarding what is actually going on until everything is resolved.

IVAN ZHIGALOV is the goalie they drafted last year. played in the OHL this year on a bad Kingston team and put up the expected numbers. He's nowhere close to the NHL at this point. Frankie will be back up, the adductor issue shouldn't linger into next season. Annunen is progressing well in the AHL, but you would really like to see him have one really dominant season there before promoting him full time. Given that they are in their Cup window right now, I would expect a veteran to be signed for that #3/4 role to primarily play in the AHL, but be available in case of injury. In that case, it would depend on who is playing better between Annunen and said veteran. I think next off season is the one where they really have to decide if Annunen is going to be their full time back up or not – big year for that kid.
