So the Draft Lottery comes, We draft Bedard and plenty of others for the future. Hawks have to still reach the cap floor and ice a team to mentor all the prospects likely to be playing full time. Who do the Hawks go after this summer? Domi? Meier?
Would love Ryan O’Reilly on a 3-4 yr deal. Could help show younger guys good 2 way hockey the way Toews/Hossa used to play.
GoldWhale
Bertuzzi

Would love a combination of Meier/Bertuzzi/Domi/Monahan/Tarasenko

Highly doubt they’re going to go after a big name free agent right now. I’ve got a feeling they’re going to try and just get to the cap floor (about $65 million iirc) and then use the remaining space to take on contracts for assets. Next year is when they’re probs gonna start looking at some big free agents
twitchrdrm
I expect a few cheap older vets to provide some offensive leadership.

There’s this really great future FA this off-season. Who has been in the league for over a decade, had MVP caliber seasons, and a slew of knowledge of playing in the league. His name is Patrick Kane.

Its more likely a trade than a free agent. Use the cache of 2nd round picks and take on someone else’s bad contract to gain an asset.

Would love to have Domi back for no other reason than I hate him when we play against him but love him when he’s on our side

Meir is an RFA who’d require an offer sheet. The Hawks aren’t giving up 1st round picks any time soon lol

I would like to see some of these players signed for next season, if possible, O’Reilly,Meier,Tatar,Klingberg, Bertuzzi, Orlov,Domi,Athanasiou, Shattenkirk,Gostisbehere,Andersen.

I’m not a huge fan of this FA class and I’d rather keep the powder dry so we can be aggressive in taking on salary dumps, as well as load up to make a huge run at Matthews. But on Pardon My Take today Paul Bissonette said the Hawks should target some size to protect Bedard (and Reichel) which I agree with. He recommended Ryan Reeves. Tinordi does that but I’m not sure he’s an everyday player next year plus let’s be honest that dude’s gotta chill for the sake of his health lol.

What you guys really need is two great defencemen named Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Tyler Myers. We will even allow you to buy out their contracts because they are so good and they need to go to the Hawks.

Bring back Debrincat and Domi. Then sign someone like Ryan reaves to 3 year deal to protect Bedard.
Then Auston Matthews in 2025 and Draisaitl in 2026. Easy peasy
Chicagoblew
I would start with that Patrick Kane guy.

While there are some big names in this free agent class this off-season, I’d like to see them splash the cash in 2024. Matthews, kopitar, stamkos, Aho, Nylander, Dahlin to name a few. Big name players to build around.

Domi 100%
Timo maybe.
Perhaps they bring Pius Suter back? Idk
Sean_athan
Would love to see them try ans swing a deal with Boston for Jeremy Swayman

Max Domi comeback? Guy gives Bedard a body guard and someone who can finish
SpraykwoN
Domi is a shoe in to come back I feel. Kane could be a possibility depending on his hip issues. Toews doubtful. My guess is he hangs em up in the offseason.

Ideally domi. Skilled enough to be on the first line w Bedard and he would defend that kid with his life. Saw a tweet earlier about Vancouver free agents (maybe boeser?) as another option for a solid veteran top 6 guy.

Pens fan here (Hawks are my #2). Please take some of our dead cap space to get cap compliant!!
TheSeanie
they can afford to overpay a tougher guy like bunting for 3 or 4 years
fazlez1
If he hasn’t re-signed with Ottawa, bring back Debrincat.
Le_Quebeco_Iranien
Maybe John Tavares?

The whole “needing to reach the cap floor” is an issue that I think gets overblown every single year. It is very, very easy to reach the floor but every year we see teams clamoring about how they can pawn off their garbage, max term contracts on someone like Buffalo or Arizona solely because the cap floor exists.
We really don’t need that much help to get up there and I would definitely prefer we only go after a few cheap, low term veterans over shelling out on anyone. I would be fine with bringing someone like Domi back but only if its around $3MM again and max term of like three years.
We aren’t going to be able to leverage Bedard’s ELC into any sort of Cup run so we absolutely have to be cautious of tying down any significant money for more than three years. We could very quickly be needing to pay all of Bedard, Korchinski, Reichel, Vlasic, etc. in the same 1-2 seasons if things go well. This would obviously be a good problem to have, but we can hamstring ourselves before we even get to that point.
