Corey Pronman’s draft predictions

As much as I think we need an elite D man I don’t think we should pick Reinbacher, as elite D man will usually come out of the later rounds. We better get an Elite winger like idk Michkov

Michkov falls to number 8 which I think is ridiculous as he put up better numbers than Ovi in his draft year

I know it’s an unpopular opinion but I really like Reinbacher. He’d really help complete our D core but idk if he’s the pick at 5. If the habs are hesitating too much on Michkov, why not trade down?

  3. LongBoyLobster

I don’t understand. If they’re going to pass up on elite offensive talent to draft a top dman, they should have drafted Nemec last year when the stakes for doing so were lower

  4. Longshanks123

People here will act like getting the consensus best Dman (an RD at that) in the draft would be a bad thing but it’s actually very appealing to me at least. The Michkov situation is bizarre and there is no elite forward talent after the top 5.

Edit: I’d still take Leonard though.

  5. nikischerbak

It’s another tempting player. I don’t think I’d pick him at 5th but I would understand if they did.

    Guhle – Mailloux

    Hutson – Reinbacher

    Xhekaj – Barron

This top 6 in 3-4 years is looking very strong.

You add some wild cards to the mix in Engstrom, Trudeau, Harris, Struble and you are almost guaranteed your top 6 which give you the opportunity to maximize your number of towards in this draft.

  6. KantanaBrigantei

    Carlson, Smith or Michkov.

No other options in my uninformed brain.

  7. Benozkleenex

pls trade down if this is the case.

  8. Sugarstache

If Michkov falls to us at 5th and we pass on him, Reinbacher is the only pick I wouldn’t be too upset about.

  9. KeepUpTheFPS

If they really want Reinbacher they should trade back, I wouldn’t use 5 for him and I don’t think many teams would

  10. shogun2909

If they like Reinbacher that much just trade down, don’t pick him at 5

  11. If Michkov is going 4th, then Carlsson or Smith would be available at 5 and we should 100% take one of them. I could maybe understand passing on Michkov because of the whole shitty situation and maybe some character issues (we don’t know but I’m sure the GMs will do their due diligence on the matter), but no way we should be passing on Smith or Carlsson.

  12. Star-Prince

I’m already so sick of mock drafts

  13. BlazeOfGlory72

This would be so dumb. We actually have a pretty deep pool of defensive prospects with Ghule, Hutson, Barron, Harris, Mailloux, Xhekaj, Beaudin. We also desperately need high end offensive talent, which we are guaranteed by picking one of the top 5 ranked players. So why in fuck would we reach hard for a defensemen, one who likely has an inflated ranking already due to being the only noteworthy D man in this draft.

If michkov is available at 5th you 100% take your chance at a panarin/kaprizov tier player. 2 year wait or 4 year wait you do it. I’d rather see him drafted to us and never play then any other alternative of him wrecking havoc in the league in another sweater.

  15. jo_maka

We need more F and G than D.

We’re ok with D. Not all of them are elite, but we have good potential.

  16. Professional_Mode804

Why is every single prediction for us going off the board

  17. Quasihodor

If Michkov (a RW) falls to us because of our fears about his 25/26 contract and we pass on him; have no fear, at least we’ll have Gallagher (a RW) until 26/27.

  18. felix5960

Serious question : should we trade back to Arizona or Philly? It would still guarantee us someone like Dvorsky or Reinbacher. If so, what would the trade look like?

  19. FlashyChapter

I’m good with us going for Reinbaucher as long as we pulled a Romanov/Dach trade part 2.

  20. mountainpope

Reinbacher is good at everything and elite at nothing. Future Mid pairing defenseman.

  21. Capable-Mobile-8260

For a team that isn’t had an 80 point player in at least a decade any top 5 pick has got to be a forward. Defense is nice and all but I need to see some offense for once.

  22. hackmastergeneral

If Michkov gets drafted before we pick, I can’t see ya passing on either of Carlsson or Smith who would be available in that spot. He may be the best Damn available, but we are stacked with d prospects, and he’s not ranked that highly by almost anyone else. He’s be a pretty significant reach at that spot

  23. Habsfan_1984

The holes I see in our organization are top 6 offensive forward, top 4 RHD and goaltending.

This draft I think our first pick should address the Top 6 offence need. (Smith, Carlsson or Michkov)

Floridas pick we can address RHD depth, maybe Dragicevic.

I wouldn’t mind also snagging a goalie (Gahan, Augustine, or Hrabal.)

Take some risks this year and draft for high ceiling instead of high floor. We have some great depth in the pool with Farrell, Roy, Kidney, Mesar, Beck, Heineman.

  24. GoldenHourShower

To heck with Reinbacher at 5. Dude’s a softy who had a bajillion secondary assists this season. He’s probably a 2nd pair at best and next year’s drafted is STACKED with defenders. If they’re so desperate for a RHD they should target Dragicevic with the later pick. That guy oozes offence and he scratches that 6’2 RHD itch.

That said I am mentally preparing for this team to pass on the best offensive prospect it can draft since the 80s for Reinbacher. It seems so on brand for the club. It will be fun to watch him arrive in 30 years and put up 23 points while Michkov scores 35 goals

  25. Frectozhae

Just a reminder : Pronman is usually one of the most accurate in his mock drafts. He clearly has sources since he predicted Wright falling to 4 last year and Slaf going first months before it happened.

On Michkov, he said in this article that right now, the betting favorite inside the NHL is not before 8th pick or later. That is apparently the range that scouts think he will go.

  26. I like Reinbacher, but the World Championship will play a big role in his final stock value.

If you prefer to draft him instead of Smith/Michkov, and either of the 2 forwards are still available at #5, then you have to look into trading back and get a kicker for your trouble.

  27. No_This_Is_Patrik

Not a fan of this take. We already have so many D prospects in the pipeline, and at 5, there’s bound to be a good selection of forwards to choose from that we really shouldn’t pass up.

  28. theflower10

I’ll have some of whatever it is he’s smoking. If Michkov is gone that means either Smith or Carlsson is available. Montreal is well stocked with good you D prospects and no feffing way they’re passing on one of two very good centremen in Smith or Carlsson for a guy ranked 10th. Is this guy actually aware of who the Habs have in their prospect pool and current NHL young D or is he just looking for clicks?

  29. Dank_Bubu

We are stacked on defense. Why would we say no to either Carlsson, Smith or Michkov ?

    L take

  30. Lithium187

Fuck off we are not burning 5th overall on a defenseman.

We are taking an elite C or winger. This is clearly just for clicks.
