If for some wild reason he is available at #8 it’s a no brainer. But there really is no replacing Alex Ovechkin. A bonafide power forward with over 3,000 hits behind him while simultaneously scoring 800+ goals and participating in 95% of games available to him over his career. I know that’s not what you’re saying by “replace” but I feel like it had to be mentioned.

I would love Capitals to get him, but the insiders Ives talked to say he could go third. I highly doubt he’s at 8.

While everyone was drooling over Connor, I knew it wasn’t realistic for Caps (and Blues for me) to get to the top spot, so this guy became my dream draft pick. No way will he fall to us, unless teams feel uneasy with him or something. I imagine he’ll cover over to North America pretty quickly too, since the whole tragedy with his dad was super suspicious, I bet he wants to leave ASAP. A man can dream, but I don’t think he makes it past 3.

I feel like he’s going to be gone before the Caps pick at 8 but maybe teams will shy away from picking him because of the uncertainty in Russia with the war in Ukraine. One can hope that somehow he falls to the Caps because he could be a natural fit with OV as a mentor.
