this is a solid trade for both teams but i would prefer ian cole then greg paytern. paytern is an AHL defenseman who would be an NHL bottom pairing defenseman if it wasnt for minnesota’s STACKED d core. but ian cole is a common nhl player. but the avs did get a decent player for the taxi squad, but i will say the wild did win the trade too.
A win for both sides of the trade. The Wild get the better player but our defense is stacked and we have a few guys coming up and we needed space for them. We'll be just fine without Cole wish him the best in Minnesota though

Winner of this trade should be Cole – in a contract year he wasn't going to be able to generate much buzz on the Avs. Super Joe doing right by his vets.

Great video John! Pretty under the radar trade. Definitely a win for the Wild Ian Cole is a nice player to add for a team looking to make the playoffs.
Honestly Cole was really the Avs last remaining “liability” if you watch every Avs game you’d understand what I mean. Wild fans will soon know…
Avs save a mil in the trade and can save another mil putting Pateryn on taxi squad. Girard plays on the left side, not on the right. Cole was on his off hand. This just gives Timmins more potential ice time. If we do get some injuries or w/e, Byram, Dennis Gilbert and Pateryn can come in in a pinch. Much better then Mark Alt, Kevin Connaughton and Anton Lindholm of last years.
I'm a Wild fan, I like this trade as player for player. This is a few days after and Ian Cole has stood out more so than Patyrn ever did. Pateryn also has played a limited amount of time due to injuries. Biggest down side is the salary coming back to the wild. They added another 1.2 mill onto the cap, already being pretty cap strapped. I think long term this was a chance to get a player with trade value/expansion value (if resigned). Where Patyrn has.. well, this was his value at most. Trade for small cap dump from other team. Cole may actually return a mid round draft pick. Wild win the trade, but only by a small margin.
