Sorry Ilya. Isles get no love from the nhl media. Neither does jets and hellebuyck from canadian media. If he aint a hab or a leaf he don't matter. Same for Ilya. If he were a rag he'd win vezina. But he aint so he wont win vezina which means ullmark the playoff non-factor will win vezina. Then he can thank voters for vezina being a season only award.
Garth Snow made some good moves, and Sorokin is probably his finest. John Taveras was a no-brainer.
Morning Gil, great show and topic. Well I’d bet a VSF check that the powers that be are gonna hand the Vezina to Ullmark and in my opinion he doesn’t deserve based on the fact of the Bruins defense which is why Sorokin should win it, the isles lack of defense . As for him signing an extension, I’m not gonna bet on him signing one, he seems to be very competitive and if the isles can’t put a good team infront of him, he’s outta here. With that said, whoever is the isles GM is obviously gonna try and get him to sign but if he doesn’t, the GM is gonna get a haul for him. It wouldn’t shock me if the isles draft another goalie that could be his replacement. Wow, Lee nominated for handing out hugs, well we knew it wouldn’t be for his leadership on the ice !
Good morning team. Gil, thank you for another great podcast. HUGE congrats to our great goalie, Ilya Sorokin for being a Vezina finalist. He certainly deserves it. When he signs his extension, I believe the price for him will be worth it. Having said that, I would like to see the Islanders put a cap on age. To me, I would allow a player to play at the age of 34. After that, the team needs to consider moving on from that player. Yes, even if the player's name is Sorokin, Barzal, Horvat, etc. I'll always support the name on the front of the jersey vs. the back. Everyone have a great weekend! See you all Monday. If the Islanders want Ilya to re-sign, they better build a solid team around him this offseason or else there’s a good chance they can kiss him goodbye in the summer of 2024 unfortunately
